Squirrel_Basher 17,100
In the construction industry we are issued with" green cards" if working near sewers or waterworks .ANY illness worth going to the doctor for is worth pointing out that you may have been in contact with rat urine . A point worth making is to wear gloves when ratting.I respect people not using their ferrets for rat but on some farms around us the chance of bolting a rat from a rabbit bury is high .The small jills are the best as a ferret needs room to fight a rat and kill it if it wont bolt . Guest stantheman
It,s no differant from ratting with terriers, you still got to take the rat off the dog, Quote Link to post

Guest jass
I keep a line of albino ferret that luvs to work rat as soon as the box is opened and they get a whiff of tailum they come alive.. Ive only lost 1 jill to what i would say is the yelows. She only had a small cut on her nose When she backed up out of the hole but refused to go back to ground. Unfortunatly she got very thin and died a just over a week later. Plenty of the others have had sum right bad cuts and their still on the go. I always have a few lemonade bottles full of a solution i wash the dogs and ferrets down with after ratting. 2 litres of boiled and cooled water 1 drop only!!! of demestos 3 capfuls of detol Then after a wash especial paws and muzzles clean up any wounds and give them a big bowl full of milky water to flush any urine through their system. Try and wear gloves and WASH YOUR HANDS. Quote Link to post
Guest sushie
I think somewhere i have seen that 75% of rats carry weils desease! I allways wear disposable gloves when taking rats out of fenn traps etc.Basically if youve been in contact with rats or working in an area that holds them, cover any cuts etc, dont smoke or eat until you washed your hands! jonathan 0
I have used ferret's for ratting once or twice over the year's.. ..and will carry on doing so for as long as i can.. ..Ive had ferret's that will bottle it and come out once faced by a rat but the good one's stand there ground and fight till the rat rather bolt's or is killed. Ferrets of all sizes can take some bad punishment ive had them with there eye's nearlly out/tails bitten in half/noses hanging off/ slashed across the head's and bad infections afterwards..but if they are cleaned and cared for properly they sharp heal up.. .. On the lepto bit i suppose it is advisable to wear gloves if you have any bad cut's on your hand's but personally i dont bother as im hard as feck.. :11: .. At the end of the day ferret's have been used for killing rat's for a long time so just give them a go they will rather do it or they wont.. Millet Quote Link to post
