Guest Fishaben
Hi there, have you ever tried midget patterns on warm days, they seem to do well, or nymph's. Never fly fished a river personally but these seem to work on stillwaters. Ben Quote Link to post

J Darcy 5,871
On flowing water i tie a dropper for a Black and peacock, with a greenwells on the point. Size14 both Love the wet fly and once saw my father take a 4lb chub on the point and a dace on the dropper from a fast swim! Also had a great deal of success with the north country spider patterns such as snipe and purple and partridge and orange. For dry i like to use small black "midge" patterns of my own tying. Size 16-20 i find the best. I use a platil tapered cast to get good turn over and mostly use a little 7ft hardy smuggler that i have together with a featherweight and #4 w/f line. A great bit of kit and so easy to handle. Quote Link to post

Guest wilbar
What fly pattern do you think is the best for river fishing. Most of the time i fish with a Mallard & Claret Where possible I mainly use klinkhammers or variants(size 18). As far as wet flies go I have a soft spot for the coch-y-bonddu (size 10-12) Quote Link to post

Aled 494
The best fly in the entire world is in my opinion the one in which you've got self confidence in. Its better to fish the "wrong" fly well than to fish the "right" fly badly. All the flies put n here though are good fly's Tight Lines Al Quote Link to post
