Great morning with the 223 on rabbit

Recommended Posts

Ive been going to my usual haunts very regular lately with my 22lr and have been knocking rabbits down up to distances of around 70 yards, hit and miss any further. One particular area im not able to get to within 90-100 yards without them seeing me and scarpering so decided to get my .223 out to wipe some of this lot out. They didnt know what hit them!

I took 2 packs of 20 bullets and used nearly all of them, with a 100% kill ratio today at distances varying from 60 yards to around 150 yards -very happy!

My sights were not absolutely bang on, i knew this, so i was just going for body shots, and out of the thirty-something that i hit, only one was edible!!

I took a couple of photos which are nice, note the one where only guts remain. If you look you can see the scoring on the grass where the bullet tore through the rabbit then through the grass and left only guts, with the rabbits remains some distance away!

I really enjoyed shooting the rabbits at greater than normal distances and are seriously thinking of getting me a .17 hmr just for this.

Enjoy, trappa

I dont know what your implying poacher but i dont shoot rabbit for sport, i do it as a job. If someone phones me up to kill some rabbits i do just that, whether they are young, old, shot or ferreted. I do eat around 80% of all the rabbits i shoot but today i neeeded to down some that i couldnt get close to so had to bring out the higher calibre rifle, which through no fault of my own, totally destroys them.

If your implying that i shot them just for the fun of it, nothing could be further from the truth, though i must confess i did find it highly entertaining.

no harm if you did shoot them for fun! its not like they are in short supply and there is a limit to how many rabbits you can eat.

Remington accutip 50gr mate.

My gun is only fussy about what he eats (i am half way through getting myself sorted reloading with the help of woz on here) and ive tried plenty of different ammo but these remmy accutips go lovely with the rifle.

Fair play to you mate - thats tidy shooting  I can't see what the problem when its a pure pest control situation - Dead is dead - it's not like anyone can say they suffered ;) what does a box of .223 cost you?

They are fecking expensive lads, 20 bullets = £20 !!!!!!!! Thats why its only brought out for fox or certain situations. I wouldnt use it for rabbit unless im getting paid.

you av just confirmed my opinion of 90pct of shooting people complete fecking arseholes ps bloody good shooting old boy.

Not sure what your problem is - dead is dead.

Now if you have a problem with shooting things, piss off someplace else.

No i havent mate. If i find some i will give them a try. At 20 squid a box i will try anything!!! lol

Like i say, im going to be reloading , woz got me the gear and is willing to help me over the phone, plus i know a lad who loads his own who can show me, but i will be getting myself a corner of the garage specifically to do this, but we just sold our "static-ish" caravan and all the gear that was inside it is in the garage and you cant swing a cat in there at the moment.
