Bosun11 537
Mine are fine with our cat, its a different matter with other cats they don't know. Got a mate who, a few years back had some 'very serious' fox dogs, none would go anywhere near the family cat but would destroy any other moggy on sight. Quote Link to post
Guest fence_hopper
Thats what im worried about mate! I dont want people reporting my pals dog for tearing up the local cats:( So if socilised well from a pup the lurcher should be ok with them? Steve if your mate gets it young and socialised there shouldn't be a problem you need a brave dog to tackle a cat Quote Link to post
Headshot08 36
Thats what i was thinking. If he socailises it on walks with the local cat from a pup then he would get to know the local cats and might not want to tear them apart? just a thought maybe? Quote Link to post
Guest manda
or you can borrow my male cat for a week he'll never want to go near a cat again, he's a tw@t and hates everything Quote Link to post

lurcher lass 9
i have a cat which my bitch has grown up with, she is fine with her, though will give chase to another cat if given the chance, when a cat is cornered or shes catches up with the cat she'll just turn away, yet shes a grand ferreting dog another option is to get the pup used to cats and also use a racing muzzle when going out, as its lightweight doesn't look tacky as still keeps the cat safe, then it shows your doing your bit all the best lurcher lass Quote Link to post

IanB 0
As a general rule most dogs hate cats unless their brought up with them and socialised... Please don't post stupid comments on this thread I've already deleted quite a few from idiots, if there future posts contribute nothing of value to the site, they will be removed.... :realmad: Quote Link to post
ferret15 0
if he doesn't have a cat himself then it doesn't matter as long as he keeps the dog under control IE when not in his garden on a lead in the street, mine are never of the lead in our street mostly because i would never forgive myself if one got hit by a car chasing a something. at the end of the day accidents do happen but as long as you have done all you can to prevent them then you have covered your back. obviously it make life simpler if your dog is broken to cats less head aces for everyone, if its that much of a concern for him then get a pup get it used to lots of friendly cats that don't run at the sight of a dog, and inform the people next door you are getting a dog and don't know how it is with cats.
