Decoying in garden, using airgun

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

I am wanting to try a bit of pigeon decoying in my garden. I have never tried decoying before. Below is a pic of part of my garden

There is usually a lot of pigeons about my garden, usually in the trees (the numbers have declined since i started shooting them and feeding them to the ferrets), but almost never see any on the ground.

On the left of the pic (what looks like a bush), is a tree that fell over years ago, but is still alive. I am thinking i could set a hide up in this tree and set some decoys about 30 yards or so away from it, and pick them off as they land. Does anyone think this is likely to work? I know i will need to do a bit of trial and error but as i said i have never done decoying before so any advice would be great.

Was also thinking if it works, i could leave a dead pigeon out in the garden to attract magpies and crows, this seem like a good idea?

Cheers,

John

Nearest neighbour is across the road, on the other side of my house, a good bit away from where that pic was taken. Theres only 4 houses on my road, the closest one after that is about half a mile down the road

i would put out bread and birdfood and stuff on the lawn, more likely to pull them in in the long run, you will get the crows and magpies feeding on that aswell, decoying is only really good if your doing it where they know theres food.

hope that helps!

If you put decoys on the ground then your only likly to attract any pigeons that are already within your garden. Try lofting some decoys up a tree and hide within range.

Wish I had a garden like yours!
