curlywat 0
Hi All, I know this will sound crap to all you boys who have been hunting for ever but I have just had my first rat with my black terrier that I rescued back in August, been having trouble with them for a few weeks so set the traps and got 1 tonight. Was a bit dubious as to how the dog would be but needn't have worried - he is born to it I think!! Hopefully will have many more to follow. Quote Link to post

pointer 543
It dosent sound crap mate,we all started out as hunting newbies and i can still remember the first rat my first terrier caught years ago. Ive had a few since then but im still as keen to hunt them, one rat or more it dosent matter.Weve just got back from a lamping session with our lasses terriers. Good fun everytime, keep at it Quote Link to post
Rainmaker 7
As pointer says, we all started somewhere - there's nothing crap about it! Whether rat or roe deer, 7 or 70, you're giving your dog what he's been bred for and having the time of your lives while you're at it. The first of many now you're 'hooked', no doubt! You'll never beat the high of that first catch though, and knowing that your dog'll "do" What is he and how's he put together? You said rescued so I dare say you don't know specifics. Just curious is all. If he's suitable, maybe get him into some 'proper' terrier work protecting game birds next season once he's settling into his trade All the best mate, have fun! curlywat 0
Thanks for all the comments and support everyone, it means a lot to a newbie like me I can tell you. The dog is a patterdale terrier (smooth). I was told he is about 2 years but looks a lot younger, he has never been worked but I am out every day with him, going to game fairs this summer (he got a 2nd place in Monmouth 2 weeks ago) and asking all the time whenever I see people out with workers. Migh have some permission with my brother in law on a farm he will be shooting on so fingers crossed...it's a big learn for the both of us...but he was very up for it last night. yis, Curly. p.s. I am 36 and thought that rugby was the love of my life but like someone said earlier this is addictive. Quote Link to post
