juliet 0
Hi I am new to this forum and have only joined in the hope you can help me re home my rescue Patterdale x ( black lab I think). Rusty is approx 3 yrs old and not suited to a family home as he snaps at children. He is a born hunter and 100 % terrier so needs a proper hunting home. He is neutered and chipped. The rescue say it is impossible to home dogs like this, I disagree they just need a job of work to do. I live in south Suffolk ........hope someone can help. I forgot to say he digs like a b**stard I have holes all over my garden !! Edited May 4, 2009 by juliet Quote Link to post

skycat 6,173
A terrier of that age that has never learned to respect ALL humans will always be a danger to people. I've lost count of the terrier type pet dogs that are PTS despite people's best efforts to change their attitude: they need to learn their place when they are young and not be treated like furry little people just because they were once tiny and cute.........and just because it digs holes in the lawn doesn't mean to say it will be a good worker! digger63 3
Posts like this allways set alarm bells ringing for me, anti's would like to get hunting dogs classed as dangerous animals,if anyone offered the dog in question a home it would be like saying "we dont care if its likely to bite kids,so long as it hunts" a slippery slope in my opinion. If you are genuine fair play for trying to help the dog,if you are an anti trying it on, my daughter used to dress up my working terriers in dolls clothes and sleep in the basket with it sometimes,no need for dangerous tempraments at all. steve. goldfinch2007 2,332
sounds like a ticking bomb to me.how would you feel if you re homed it and it did hurt a child.fairplay to you but i think you know what must be done. Quote Link to post
juliet 0
I am definately not an anti as spent many happy years hunting with my horse. I am just someone who works as a volunteer for a dog rescue that takes dogs from the local pound with no history. Several of the so called snappy terriers I have taken turned out to be super dogs that just needed a bit of tlc and training....I guess you can't win them all Quote Link to post
hound 1
juliet fair play to you for trying to find a home for your dog. but if i was in your shoes i think there is only one way this can go. some times you have to be crual to be kind. i would never have a dog like that near my kids as i would never feel safe, and i would never put it near anyones else kids. i know you could rehome it with a couple that does not have kids but what happens when they take the dog for a walk in the park etc, it only takes a second how would you feel if it did attack/bite a kid or toddler? this dog will end up being passed from pillar to post which you have to agree is not fair on the dog at all. im not trying to tell you what to do but im affraid it will be kinder to have the little fella put to sleep. andy Quote Link to post
