I'm after a little "friendly" advice,

I have been out three mornings on the trot around the 5.00 am mark looking for wood pigeon, all I seem to see is their arse flying over the horizon . My land is open field (recently planted with plenty of green shoots coming through) surrounded by decent size hedgerow. The birds tend to congregate in the centre of the field - out of range. Anything that is within range seems to have bionic vision or something!

I am quiet, dressed accordingly (not in cammo) and patient .....is there something that I am missing ?

The pair of fat woodies in my garden don't bat an eyelid even when i'm mowing the lawn, totally different to the ones in the field. (I don't view the ones in the garden as pests)

I realise that instant success is a tall order, and field craft and experience lead to pigeon pie but any pointers would be gratefully received.

Thanks in advance.

get there before they do and build a hide or something low key... mark out the distances with a big stone or branch in the ground or something..

or try a ghillie suit.. (cover your hands face and gun too...)

If you go out without your gun, they'll be all over the place! Landing at your feet, waddling around taunting you. But show a gun and they're off. Very clever these pigeons.

I swear they can tell if I have 2" .410 bunny shot or 12 bore.

Not much in the way of advice I'm afraid but sympathy for a shared frustration. :)

hi belly slater

first of all you need to watch this quarry and get use to its flight path, as above mark out some distances within your air rifles range and place your decoys there, make sure they face in to the wind.a hide is a must, and some camo gear hands and face plus the obvious ,make sure the back of your hide has hardly any light coming through to solve this use a camo net and branches.once you start to bag replace the decoys with the fallen quarry.hope this helps

happy hunting
