why is my bitch still staining

Recommended Posts

My bitch had a litter 2 years ago and was put to the stud dog on day 11 as she appeared to be standing for my own dog. I travelled almost 700 miles round trip for this mating and left her with my mate to do the deed. he called me a couple of days later and said that she would not stand and came out of season. i collected her back home and the following week she came back into season and away i went again on my long trip to drop her off. this time she did tie on DAY 28 and had a nice litter of five pups. This time i took her back for a repaet mating on day 10. Alas she would not stand so once again i left her. She was mated on DAY 21 and day 23. She is still staining. ANy ideas why she does this ??. Is she just a typical woman ?.

The first experience might have told you that she was a late ovulater! So why did you atttempt to get her mated on day 10 the second time?

I had a bitch who would only stand and be mated from days 21 to 24 of her seasons: this is late, but all bitches are different: most are ready between days 11 and 14: some are not: that's nature for you!

You can get a bitch tested to see if she's ovulating: don't know how much it costs, but that would be the way to go for anyone trying to get a mating and not succeeding at the normal times in the season. Friend of mine also had a bitch which would only stand for 2 days on days 20 and 21.

Not at all: the books say that when she's ready to mate the discharge will turn colourless: I've never found that to be true. Yes, maybe the colour is a bit lighter, more pinky, but mine bleed all through their season, before and after mating: the only time you should worry is if the bitch is passing blackish blood after the mating: that could indicate an infection.
