good few hours by myself....

Recommended Posts

well i got my gcse in a few weeks and as it was bank hols tomorrow i decided i would have one last visit... well i went by myself which i thought would be very boring.. i thought wrong.

i hardly ever shoot anything im glad if i get one of anything...

well my dad droped me i was apprehensive and i set off 5 mins on the first field a heard a ruslt then a big rabbit bolted infront of me, about 30 metres away by the time i closed the gun and composed myself... bang i nailed him, he must of jumped about a foot in the air and then i nailed him again just to make sure... i was over the moon i was shaking i was buzzin... i then carried on didnt see much for half hour carried on wondering and then i hear, who gave you efing permission on here" i said the farmers name and he said nooooo youve come to far.. i couldnt see the guy he was in full camo i only saw his gun lol... oh oh sorry mate i replied.. its ok have you got a light he asked... well i didnt have a lite for him but we had a good chat, he said im waiting for dusk to nail the foxes... this was 5 oclock in the afternoon... well we had a little chat then i set of back to my permission :icon_redface:

then i was walking i see a squirrel come down off a tree had a shot missed then saw a rabbit bolt had a shot but missed there was to much for me to go at.... nothing then carried on walking and a squirrel... bang. nailed him a small little fella, i did feal a little guilty for about 2 hundreths of a second then thought naaaaaaaaa pest control is pest control...

well my day continued. i was then in a freshly turned field so was very bear... i saw to brown things.. no tehy cant be rabbits they dont seem scared. i walked and walked hid behind a few cows until they moved i had a shot hitting one although i thought i missed, then the other ran but i missed him aswell... please note this is only the second time ive shot the shotgun so i am still pleased although i missed a fair few... i then went into inspect to find the one rabbit injured, he wasnt happy so i though should i risk gettin bitten or just shoot it again. i shot it at point blank to the head as it would be the fastest way and it blew half his head off.. not a pretty site but i just wanted it dead quick. i then procedded on my journey to spot another 2 rabbits sitting together i had a shot but was ambitious it was about 50 metres but nothing. a few wood pigeon flew over i took a shot hit one which landed in the thick wood i thought oh my god the only thing i am dieing to shoot and eat, i shoot one, i dont have my dog so im not going into holly bush to chase after a dead woodie... :(

a rabbit bolted then shortly after but ran out saw me and ran back in shortly followed by what looked like a pregnant vixen.

well got 2 rabbits and a squirrel i went by myself not something i normally do but i was well pleased with the result that is a good day for me i dont normally get anything and if i do its not normally a rabbit usually a squirrel with the airgun..

pics....

please excuse the dead looking face i was pretty tired...

good job mate, dont worry about rabbits biting you it never happens. i had to shoot one twice myself yesterday, if one is standing after its been shot i forget about the meat and just shoot it again, i made this rule after one jumped straight out of my hands and ran away, by the time i had reloaded it had gone. I still skinned and gutted that rabbit, it wasn't pleasant but atleast i salvaged half a rabbit lol

the trouble is no one wants to take a chance that the person they take out with them . that they won't go back on their land when their back is turned .and it does happen or drop a bollock and lose them their permission it happened to me last year.

bump.. y does no one ever reply on my threads in this section :(

i think you need a bit more experience before anyone invites you out, from what i can gather from your post-

its only the second time you've fired a shotgun

you wandered off your permission and could have shot someone or been shot

your shooting in a field of cows

it doesn't exactly hold you in good stead does it.

im not having a go, just an observation good luck

shooting in a field with cows, no problem farmer said carry on. yes its the second time ive shot the shotgun i only got my certificate early march, i wonderd off my permission yes but there was no fence between my farmers land and his neighbours i did say this to the farmer and he said dont worry he is good friends with his neighbour and they kind of share each otehrs land so its not really my fault... and what i said about going pigeon shooting how do you gather experience? by going out with someone who has alot more than you, so no harm in asking..

cheers

if you want to get your eye in with a shotgun go and do a few days at clay shooting it will teach you to give your target more lead etc etc that way you wont have half dead rabbits or pigeons left to suffer or waste more carts then you have to .Once you get yourself a name as a good shot you will get the invites as other shooters know you are a safe gun...

Trust me it worked for me ;)
