jeppi 49
well rab take it you a bit of a novice when it comes to the working lurcher as i like to see a dog put to the test weather it behind old long ears on nice flat land or rocky fell land taking 20/30 rabbits in a few hard hours work. a lurcher should be able to hunt on any ground even rock climbing as you have dumbly stated if your dog couldnt cope on such land i couldn't call it a lurcher so you stick to your nice little grassy fields and let the proper dogs do the hard work so your saying if a lurcher can not work on rocky land it not a lurcher? well what is it then? Guest shaneo
that suluki type bitch lucy brookie owns pictured in the artical he stuck up is an example of a top class animal ive been out with this man many of times and his dogs are top class animals ive seen his bitch lucy kill 30s and 40s plus 3 and 4 long hears and the odd charly in one night on many occasions and retreive life to hand every time this is a man who knows is stuff all his dogs are guarenteed single handed animals and no nonsense. One of his animals a suluki type dog 25 inches high called juke WHAT A ANIMAL no doubt in my mind and many other men who have seen this dog work and no what there talking about will agree that at his prime he was one of the best alrounders in the country ive seen this dog catch more stuff in one day than many lurcher owners catch in a month and this is no lie once he was on the chase you could guarenty it was dead hard to belleive i no but couldent be closer to the truth and for foxes he would splatter them for fun and retreive right back to him. theres nothing he wouldent bring down and on deer he was the most cleverist animal ive seen. when brookie walks the field looking for squatters with the catty juke would be there moraless pointing them out for him what a brainy animal ive seen this man crack thousands of rabbits skulls over the years with the catty and learned alot off him a real tidy genuine man who knows is game atb Quote Link to post

undisputed 1,664
Here we go again with the mighty fen dogs....catch everything blah blah blah! take them out their wee bubble differennt story....anyways back to the original point....pulling up at fences/hedges or not trying for bunnies to close to the fence is not exclusive to collie x's....from my experience I would say that the biggest cause of this is the dog being given near impossible run's were the rabbit is far to close to the fenceline and is under it before the dog can get to grips with it. Do this with any dog and eventually it will become disheartend. And as folk have already pointed out do you really want a dog that will crash through hedges in the dark without thinking?....they sort of dogs eventually come to grief....I dont like my dogs jumping fences in the dark chasing bunnies and switch the lamp of as soon as the bunny goes under and the dog is straight back ready for the next one. Remember you can always catch another rabbit, but not if your dog is out of action. I think these dogs have more sense than some of their owners Quote Link to post

Although, I wouldn't give a Saluki cross a bed for the night..... Quote Link to post
