blackpack 70
totally agree never double up causes too many problems and usually means the dog is not so good on its own. Quote Link to post

valerio 32
a lot of hypocrisy here as ever while talking doubling up.I think 95% of us has done that for some reason but the real super internet terrierman are too good to admit.I've done it some times cos at the moment my dogs were not up for it,and I'm onest to admit it.I've used couples of dogs and bitchs that were kennelled togheter, never had too much trouble. That said is better to use one at the time, and test the dog really. digger63 3
If you are saying doubling is a bad idea and claiming to never have done it how do you know? There's sense in Valero's post, exept the "not up for it part" i suspect some of the posters here only work earth tubes, and in that situation it is pointless, rock scree and piles of scrap are different, a single dog and fox can go round and round all day,but never 2 bitchs or 2 dogs and not if they go tight. All mine were very proven and started on their own when young, dont mix pups and adults or you will be very sorry. Quote Link to post

I'm happy for you if you allway have top notch dog,but remember that the dog world is made of stairs now you are on top but a moment later you are bottom.I started 2008 seasons with 6 good onest working dogs for some misfortune an year later I was left with an half retired russell dog with probably 3 theets in all is mouth and I had to go and buy two more dogs if I want to do a bit. There are moments in te life of an hunter when you have to do with the dogs you have, and if you dont want to stay at home you will double them up and many other things. allgame 0
no the dogs worked fine on there own and with other dogs but as i siad they werent fighters they were barkers meaning they dont push face first into any fox that might get in there way prefering to work from hole to hole untill the fox bolts Quote Link to post

scent 509
one dog one holeiv seen the french i dig with let 5 go to ground together on fox. my 2 stay on the lead.they don't seem to get much damage.i wont risk it with mine.i know it will end with a trip to the vets. the problem is the first dog up to the quarry is getting pushed right up by the other dog and taking too much punishment ,and secondly the second dog in could eat the arse out of the first dog so thats why i dont agree with it .Il admit the first time i dug there was 2 terriers down the earth but i learned Quote Link to post
top terrierman 90
digging with two dogs to ground is what i call pricking around yes the dog in front will get hurt but the real point is its all about knowing what you have in your pins diging to see your terrier work to the highest standerd not just digging to get the game thats whats wrong with alot of people all they want to do is dig and kill everthing if one dog dosent do it then drop down another and get whats in the earth. instead of doing the right thing if your dog doesnt dig it put him on the lead and admit he wasnt good enough dont just double up for the sake of getting whats in the hole.show some respect for what ur hunting.and i can put my hand on my heart and say i have never doubled up terriers if they cant do it on their own then theirs no point in haveing them.
