Guest WILF
Hatton a good game fighter but one dimensional and when he faces world class he falls short. Hatton would best retire from the ring he's had a great career, made some serious money and should get out while healthy. Didnt watch it, not really watched boxing for a few years.......used to love it but things change. Those little mexican type feckers are normally made of granite and I never used to see anyone have an easy time with them. Feck me, before the fight he was a "legend" now he is all washed up Everyone takes a kicking sometime, it reminds you that your a mortal and keeps your feet on the ground
arcticgun 4,548
the only realistic option (to retain any level of respect) is to retire, like most english champs they stumble at the top level, no disrespect to Hatton, atb Richard
david2363 42
Ricky is a genuine nice guy, I've met him a few time at amateur nights and the odd sportsmans dinner, and nothing is too much trouble for him as far as talking to fans and giving advice to young fighters is concerned. HOWEVER.............. He isn't quite the world class fighter that the British public and press have hyped him up to be. He's a come ahead square on boxer making the most of what he's got. He was taken down the usual Brit route of the easier road to the top (or ner the top). At the end of the day he was found wanting at the highest level - Maywether and Pacquio. Kosta Tszyu was a good fighter, but at the wrong end of his career when Hatton did for him. Sadly it's the same story with our other wonder boys Calzaghi and Khan who basically avoid the top Americans and Mexicans until the time is right.
Malt 379
Last time I'm forking out £15 and staying up until 5 in the bloody morning to watch Hatton. You'd have thought he'd have learned to box a bit clever after all these years, and learn to block a few punches.. Sadly it's the same story with our other wonder boys Calzaghi and Khan who basically avoid the top Americans and Mexicans until the time is right. People say that mate, but it's only the yanks who slag our Joe. There's more to boxing than America, even though you wouldn't think so sometimes. Calzaghe was a world champion, why didn't the big name Yanks step outside their comfort zone and come here to challenge him? They avoided him, as much as they say he avoided them.. .......apart from Jeff Lacey, and look what happened to him..

david2363 42
Can't knock Joe for heart and workrate, but the lack of power and a real knockout punch was a serious problem for him at the top level. The truth is Joe out worked and slapped most of his opponents into defeat. http://www.boxingnews24.com/2008/04/is-calzaghe-overrated/

Whether we like it or not america is the boxing capital of the world....you could hardly expect a prime bernard hopkins to travel to little wales to fight a world title fight.....like hatton, calzaghe was a very cleverly managed fighter....fortunately for calzaghe he did have genuine talent on a worldwide scale and in my opinion only let himself down that he didnt fight and beat the top fighters in their prime and hence cannot be called a great......hatton on the other hand won his 2 best fights against washed up world champions who never fought again, and when taking on real world class fighters also past their prime but not totally washed up he wasnt in the same league ! kind of explains itself......the fella above david is absolutely right....... But as for how nice a guy hatton is......who cares he,s a boxer not a showbiz personality....or maybe not and theres where the problem lies Edited May 3, 2009 by gnasher16

He slapped Lacy, Kessler, Hopkins & Jones Jr to defeat. Still top class boxers, and the first two were in their prime.
