andyfr1968 772
Am I an old git just stuck in my ways? Or does anyone else prefer the nice simple nature of a good old spring gun over PCPs? I've tried them and I want to like them, but they just don't seem to do it for me. Cheers. Andy. Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
I dont prefer springers over pre-charge, but I have a HW77 that I use quite a lot. Quote Link to post
poacher3161 1,766
same here mate to complicated for me you buy one and then pay a quarter as mutch for charging gear just so you can shoot it then again i am old fashioned but give me a springer anyday.atvb Quote Link to post
Freddy Watts 1
I like PCP's but i can see the appeal of a springer still and loved my first2 rifles which were springers. Given enough money I would buy one to go alongside a PCP in my gun cabinet. ATB Freddy Quote Link to post
mad-andy69 0
i agree pre charged not as good as the springer apart from noise but for takedown you cant whacck like a good setup springer my shooting buddies call my gamo stutzen(springer) full stock the "bunny cannon " it might not be quiet but them bunnies just get blown down when they are in the sights now i got my FAC i can tune the hw97k up legally and still hunt with the "bunny cannon" your not the only one that loves a springer even though i own all types spring, gas ram, pre charged and a good old crossbow but prefer to take the springer on hunting trips and yes i agree you buy a pre charge then have to by the fill system then have to lug it round saying i hate heavy springers yet a divers bottle gauges and your pre charged rifle weigh more than a springer and when useing field craft hunting style nothing worse than "oh sugar my gun ran out of charge and there are rabbits in my sights but cant take them down wish i had a springer with me " lol sorry for the excited springer rant but they are too good to get rid of and are better value for money ie average price for good new springer £250+ new spring replaced maybe 1-5yr £18-£25 diy fitting of spring free or £15 shop fit average price for new gas ram £75 average price for gas ram rifle £300+ service every 6-12mth for gas ram £25 average good new pre charged £500+ new seals plus fitting £+ divers bottle and fill kit £175 re-chargeing dive bottle £5-£15 pressure test every 5 year for dive bottle £17-£40 just to compare the cost effectiveness can you see a pattern spring outways the pre charged hands down cost wise but each to there own you either love springers or hate them but without them you would not have a pre charged are gas rammed rifles and the springers are still out selling the precharged in rifle sales at present company by company salesjust dont get me started on Co2 guns that even worse 50yards "bunny cannon" gamo stutzen shot while walking dog out this afternoon was only on way to get the 4x4 for tonights playtime and it was there for few seconds then boom it dropped dead good old springer Edited May 2, 2009 by mad-andy69 Quote Link to post
BBB 7
yeah i like springers still [ even though one took ma thumb off] . i now shoot pcp and they are good to be sure , but it is a piss on with charging , limited shot capacity, and fussy desings , which on some model's jam up ect i shot as good with my springers as i do with my pcp's i'd of never changed over if it wasnt for ma mishapp with the hw77. Malt 379
I've been shooting PCP's for the last few years, but I learned to shoot on my dads HW35e when I was a a kid. I love the way a PCP shoots, but the next time I buy a rifle, I think I'm going to go for a springer. I just love the simplicity of shooting a springer, it's hard to get refills and the like for PCP's around where I am, and the idea of going back to the days of just cocking your gun, and not worrying about the air running out, is appealing. Piscator 0
I love springers for their portability and simplicity - plus the fact they are not "dead" when you fire them. I've been through a few but at the moment have a .22 HW95 which has had the V-mach treatment - V-glide tune, polish and re-blue, barrel chop and re-crown, 5" steel V-mach silencer, brass set back trigger and a Ginb sporter stock. Suits me down to the ground and is great fun and satisfying to shoot. Cheers Steve Quote Link to post

mad-andy69 0
so true you cant tinker much with PCP but the limits are endless with a springer once heard of a guy useing a valve spring and a ox spring in a hw97k that was pushing 35ft/lbs ahhh the good old days lol Edited May 3, 2009 by mad-andy69 Quote Link to post

SEAN3513 7
everybody should start with a springer.....it will teach you how to shoot. i have both but, mainly use the pcp for the quietness and multishot. but enjoy using the springer from time to time, it does make you think about your shooting. each to their own but i think there is a place for both and we should all have both......lol all the best sean Quote Link to post

Im that bit more pleasesd with my gun now!! tinkering here i come! Hi, mate. Put a gas-ram in it, it'll transform the gun! I fitted one to my old Webley Xocet and I can't believe the way it shoots compared to how it did. No more twangs and rattles and no need to worry about leaving it cocked for too long. I've just ordered kits for my Lightning and Tracker too. I'm a big fan of these kits, they really do take springers to the next level. Cheers. Quote Link to post
digger63 3
I like my springers, there's nothing i cant mend on them and they are "self sufficient" ive even bought the odd wreck just to repair and tune because i enjoy doing it,wouldn't be seen dead mending a car though. Quote Link to post
