My young dog is suffering from what looks like contact dermatitis. Is it the heat were having thats affecting the dogs,or the long grass? Or isit just that time of year for skin problems to develope????? Anyway ive changed the washing powder im using,(yeah my dogs do hog the bed sometimes ) will keep an eye on him and hopefully get it sorted without a visit to the vets.. Quote Link to post
Guest ferreting king
i was having a look through A DOGS HEATH FROM A TO Z last night and i found this : alopecia - baldness, loss of hair due to a nutritional deficiency, selenium poisoning or, more frequantly, a hormone imbalance such as a reduced level of iodine or of thyroxine from the thyroid gland. it also appears in cushings didease, tumor of the tetis and, again due to hormone inbalance , in some male dogs older than five years old which become attrated to other males. in the latter conduction castration is sometime an effective remedy, though in most older cases hormone therapy to correct the inbalance of hormones is the treatment hope this helps! is mange a skin infection caused y parasites? Guest MOLLY
http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cl...3&articleid=421 This seems to have every cause of hair loss known. Perhaps a moderator will put it as a sticky in the health threads? This could also be a reason..prevelent in blue coloured dogs and whip/gereys etc... Color dilution/mutant alopecia Hereditary condition affecting dogs with blue (diluted black) or fawn coat colors; more common in Dobermans, Dachshunds, Great Danes, Yorkshire Terriers, Whippets, and Greyhounds Hair in the blue- and fawn-colored areas starts to thin at around 6 months of age; secondary folliculitis often develops Breed; history; and coat color None; avoid excessive grooming or harsh shampoos; protect skin to prevent secondary bacterial infections MOLL.
