1707: The Act of Union takes effect and England and Scotland become Great Britain, with a new Union Flag.

Personally I shall be quaffing a considerable amount of malt in honour of today.

Indeed an historic day.

I will join your quaffing of a nice scottish single malt but not until i've downed a few good old english ales.

Good idea. I believe I have a stash of Scrumpy somewhere in the shed. As long as the "trouble" hasn't found it and disposed of it via her own throat!

Scrumpy with whiskey chasers..........could be an interesting afternoon!

Your having a laugh! Swampy me boy and I'm not rising to the bait, this is a shamefull day in Scottish history as Robert Burns said a "nation sold by a parcel of rogues" This was not the will of the Scottish people at the time, in fact there was rioting in the streets of Edinburgh and all the major towns, a minority of Scottish elite sold our independance and nationhood for their own financial benefit and gain :censored: , shame, shame, shame :censored: we Scots have nothing to celebrate!! why would you?? except to antagonise we dont celebrate this!! obviously you know and care nothing of scottish history or its people, I notice through your arrogance/ignorance you left out a mention of Wales and Ireland, who were also part of the Unitited Kingdom of Great Britain at the time, why???

Tom

Ps: You would'nt know what a good malt was if it bit you on the @rse ( I bet youl'd put water or ice in it, or worse kill it with lemonade?) I'd rather drink a pint of my own vomit than toast this!!, members of my family and Clan members were transported as slaves after the 1715 and 45 rebellions to the sugarfields of of the Caribean and West Indies and you think we should celebrate this event?? and before anybody else comes up with a Scotland/ England divide shit!!, read your history :hmm: It was not England,or the English people who where responsible at the time, it was the British government of the times which also included Scots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I may adress a few points.

1. "Your having a laugh! Swampy me boy and I'm not rising to the bait...." Whoops wrong Tom!

2. "in fact there was rioting in the streets of Edinburgh and all the major towns" Standard Friday night in Scotland then....not much of a protest!

3. "a minority of Scottish elite sold our independance and nationhood for their own financial benefit and gain" That'd be of every Scotsman then!

4. "I notice through your arrogance/ignorance you left out a mention of Wales and Ireland, who were also part of the Unitited Kingdom of Great Britain at the time, why???

A: You're not either and I wouldn't get the reaction i did = No Fun.

5. " You would'nt know what a good malt was if it bit you on the @rse ( I bet youl'd put water or ice in it, or worse kill it with lemonade?)". A cheap shot (No pun intended).

You imply that I know nothing of your traditional drink. I am no efficianado on the subject but you do not have to be Scottish to enjoy a quality drink. So I shall not dein

to "bite" on that point which is irrelevant anyway. By the way I never pollute any drink with anything. It is always drunk as it was intended.......with the exception of gin

although I have on occasion drank a neat Plymouth.

But Thanks Tom i enjoyed that.

Best Regards

Don't sit on the fence Tom, say what you really think. :clapper:

For what it's worth, I agree with you.

As for whisky, is it any wonder that Bells is the brand leader down here? or on really special occasions, entry level Glenfiddich.

This clip might ease the tension and give us all a laugh.

This is open to misinterpretation ! I don't have a chip on my shoulders, one or both? What I am is! is aware of my own family history, Scottish culture, and have a great deal of pride in my own country's heritage and past, people tend to ignore their own countries history because thats what they were taught. We have the Declaration of Arbroath, England has the Magna Carta, but popular culture allows one!! too seem to take precedent over the other (why) and yet one is reputed to be the forerunner of the American Constitution and the concept of Democracy? and guess what its not the Magna Carta!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
