Rabbit Trapping Using The Mk6 Fenn

Recommended Posts

I had a problem on the golf course where i have long term contract with a rabbit(s) repeatedly excavating a burrow on the grass bank right beneath the club-house balcony. They had just laid some new turf and this hole(despite being blocked of with stones etc) was continually being opened up every night. This was driving the green keepers mad and so something had to be done. Gassing (the quick and easy option) was a no-no.....due to the close proximity of the building, ferreted it a couple of times but nothing at home.......so back to basics.... trap the hole seemed the logical solution. So i cleaned out the hole, checked the height to allow the trap to fire unhindered and bedded the Mk6 in place. You can see from the pics that when the trap was in place and covered it was virtually undetectable. The trap was set in the late evening.........and by morning the culprit had been caught, a doe rabbit that was looking to use the hole as a breeding stop. Another good result and a satisfied customer.......Happy Days :whistling:

And some folk say a Mk 6 doesnt kill a Rabbit cleanly!

Well this one was stone dead...caught perfectly across the upper chest and neck area. BUT ....................!

I have also caught rabbits that have NOT been killed instantly in a Mk 6 Fenn........something like a Juby or Imbra are far more powerful and efficient for rabbit control in my opinion. My few working Imbras were on another job otherwise i would have used one of them, that said..........i was reasonably sure i would take the rabbit going INTO the hole and set the Mk6 accordingly....also the way(and how far into the hole) it was set determined that the rabbit SHOULD be taken around the upper chest cavity and therefore inflict a humane kill.....though you can never be 100% certain in the trapping game.....!
