Should the Patterdale Terrier be recognised by the UK Kennel Club?

What do you think?

Considering this breed has so many variations for the specific hunting work required over many years, what happens if the UK Kennel Club get their hands on this breed and require a Breed Standard?

Is this right? Also, considering what has happened to many of the recognised breeds, such as the ataxic GSD, what could happen to the Patterdale gene pool?

Cheers

nothing god has ever come of a dog thats been recognised by the kennel Club. They are a disgrace and need disbanding!!
just look at what they have done to the border terrier, the sealyham, the fox terrier even the yorkshire terrier to mention a few, they have bred out working ability and gameness in the name of fashion and beauty,I dont think they should be allowed to f**k up any more working terrier lines.

hunters lke are selves have invented these breeds over decades but the b@tsrerd antis and kennel club don't mind that, there wouldn't be such breeds if there was no such thing as hunting. it'll end up like the beddy

by and large the patterdale/fell is the main terrier left now for proper digging, the lakeland, border, beddlington, fox terrier, glen etc etc have all fallen to the hands of the KC. there are some working strains left but they are dying out as far as i can see. the patterdale/fell is bred for earthwork not the show ring and long may it stay like that

i couldnt give a **** really it wont be hurting me or mine,

id like to see the back of the kc as much as the next but can some one tell me how the kennel club will screw up these black dogs?????i mean our dogs?.

collectively if we had half the integrety we spout regarding working dogs sorting mates out ,,free pups etc etc there shouldnt be a problem for us.

I voted NO, obviously, as i would hate to see yet another great working breed turned into something its not!

BUT........

As if true terriermen would ever compromise THEIR own working stock and start breeding to a standard which has nothing at all to do with working ability!!! What im trying to say is that the KC can only do so much... at the end of the day its down to each responsible terrierman to keep his/her terrier as they see fit and breed for working ability not looks...
