Guest hyperion
amazing stuff! bout time we did some thing about leaving this mud ball and got out there to have a look see! shame really cos all it would take is world peace and a single world goverment and a pooling of our resources and scientifis minds! till that happens we will just have to get on with the day to day buiseness of killing each other and our planet! cheers hyperion
shottyscotty 3
one day we will have space ships like startrek and get to were those gay uniforms and say beem me up scotty! you will see

Special relativity really fucks it all up! Speed of light is a limiting velocity, no many ways around that im afraid, so even at light speed we wouldnt get anywhere interesting very fast. However if we could travel at the speed of light then we would get to our destination instantaneous, but for everyone still on earth it would take as long as if we were classically traveling at the speed of light, so a long bloody time! Thats bassically because of time dilation and length contraction because of velocities near or of that of light, and the result of that is that although the traveller could go to all these wonderfull places when he came back to tell everyone they would all probably be dead. Of course if there was some kind of non conventional means of space travel like worm holes etc then it side steps this problem alltogether, but thats even more far fetched. When i said far fetched, i didnt as such mean far fetched, but we know f**k all really about worm holes and the likes (i was in a recent lecture with Sir Roger Penrose about his theory of quantum gravity and some nut asked him what he thought of womholes (hardly relavent), needless to say he side stepped the issue the best he could), they are still very theoretical, and thats assuming matter could pass through and come out the other side the same, which is very controversial. Thats just my opinion anyway atb
Guest hyperion
im not so much talking about going to another galaxy as simply surviving off planet, it would hardly matter if the earth, sol system and every one on and in it ceased to be so long as the human race has already learnt to travel between and settle other system! cheers hyperion
Guest hyperion
P.S nothing is impossible untill some one proves it is! cheers hyperion
Born Hunter 17,837
oh, im with you now, lol. I was under the impression you were talking about just exploring the universe to advance science etc. moving the human race to another planet, possible galaxy......shit me your ambitious, lol. Im sure we will be able to one day though, but science and technology has a hell of alot of work to do first, even if the entire world pulled together for the cause. glad im not the only one that thinks about this stuff though

Guest hyperion
ive been a sifi fan for years buddy! its not even about moving the human race to another planet its about moving the human race to loads of other planets and not being dependent on those planets either, but being able to survive in space as well! cheers hyperion

Should be interesting when the James Webb Space Telescope gets sent up in 2013, supposed to be a whole lot more powerful than Hubble, and look what Hubble has done for astronomy and our knowlage of the universe.
