im getting there

weve had a fair bit of wind and rain the last few days so i thought id get out with some snares and see if i could see the rabbit beats a bit better after all the rain!

sure enough by looking for the mud left by the rabbits feet i could see the beats a lot better than in the dry, and i was a bit more confident in setting my wires, i can find the runs most of the time but im still unsure of setting the snares over the "right" beat

any way i set eight and checked them at lunch time and late on in the afternoon, about half six, with no result

checked them this morning and..........

in the same fence snare i caught the first

and my first peg snared bunny

looks like my second peg snared bunny went to fed a badger or fox

the brass eyelet was full of bite marks and the wire its self was pretty messed up, even the peg was snaped in the ground but the whole thing held up well!, cheers holdaway/trapworks!

apart from the missing rabbit and one other tripped snare the only downer was the snare id set on an old harris fence pannel that fills a gap in one of the hedges was gone, there was no signs of a struggle and the snare was well secured to the pannel so i can only assume that one of the dog walkers who use my perrmission (with out any permission) has taken it!

Good do........

Look for the very small beats, they are the killing beats.......there are a lot better people on here to tell you but maybe a simple way to explain is like this

HOP/STAND.......hop......HOP/STAND

set right over the centre of the small beat.

The lads that really know what they are doing will no doubt put me right if that information is not correct.

Good Luck

trouble im having most of the time is i can find the runs, i can see them in the grass but the beats are so vague i cant be sure of where to set the snare!

or

im finding one or two beats on their own out in the grass with no run visable! :wallbash:

i had a quick sneaky sneaky over the other side of the hedge where i dont have permission to snare (the land belongs to the other side of the family and they dont get on with the chap whos given me permission) and the beats and runs are as clear as day, i followed one run into the field and stopped counting at a hundred paces!

Try and stand where thew rabbits are comming out from and look out into the field, then you will start to see the "runs".......or there may not be "runs" as such just beats!!

This is the case I have found on very short grass such as a golf course........no runs and you really have to study the ground to find the beats.

Like anything, I dont do enough with the wires to be able to see them instantly........but lads who really know there stuff can see beats that you or I wouldnt see.

Like anything, just keep getting out and doing a bit and experience comes.

Just try a drop of 25 wires and work on the %s pal...........once you have a few, miss a few and get a few knocked you should start to see where your going right or wrong.

Let us know how you criac on :victory:

OH, and lastly but most important......DONT FORGET YOUR MARKER PINS.......NEVER LOOSE A WIRE :victory::victory:
