ironman andy 0
It sounds daft, but when hunting at very close ranges, i.e. 10-15 yds, put your normal ammo in back to front. At this range there is minimal loss of accuracy. Then you dont need to buy two lots of pellets. Aerodynamicly, round nose pellets are more ballistcly efficient at sub-sonic speeds (99.9% of all air rifles), than their pointy nosed friends. Just look at jet planes, sub sonic, i.e boing 747 etc =round nose, super-sonic i.e. concord = pointed nose. I think more money has been spent on the aerospace research than on air gun ammo, but no doubt this research is used by pellet manufacturers. Clear as mud? Andy Quote Link to post

Andy We used to do that as kids and shoot apples, used to make a fair mess of the apple! Not sure if it's any good for the rifling though. Quote Link to post
postiepaul 0
got a feeling distortion is more to do with the hardness of the lead mix used to make the pellet. pure lead pelllets flatten more than pellets like accupell which are a harder mix. probably the best pellet for damage and distortion, especially if it hits bone, is a pure lead dome. BBB 7
the only pellets i'v seen that realy distort on impact were marksman these were dirty pellets and the lead used in em was as soft as shite i used to use these years ago outta my hw77 . it used to fletten em like a pancake using this combo back then i did some great shot's and used to floor pigeons no problem at 40 yards with body shot's then the 77 nearly took ma thumb off so it was onto pcp's and clean hard slug's Quote Link to post
