fox shot with rabbit in mouth

Recommended Posts

i was just looking at some photos from about a month back or 2 and thought id ask this question.we had lamped across the valley of a farm we had permission to lamp the foxes with a rifle(6.5) and saw two lights shine back at us. we went to the bottom of the valley and to the bottom of the sixty acre field that the charlie was sat in the middle off. we thought that he would have gone by the time we got to the bottom of the valley as it took us a good ten minutes. i shone the lamp and he was still there, so my mate got the gun on the bipod and took the shot. he dropped like a stone and when we went to get him the rabbit was just next to his mouth. now i dont know if this has happened to anyone else but would like replies.

my theory was that he was waiting for the vixen to come and take it for the cubs as he had not eaten any of it and was just sat still :gunsmilie::big_boss:

As far as I know they are fair game if they are feral, they do alot of damage to young song birds and game birds alike. I have shot a few before only after i seen them in the same area a few time well away for peoples homes. Some say its hard to prove that they are feral but if there a few miles away from the nearest house hunting well thats proof enough for me.
