gnasher16 30,279
g16 no its not a consillation prize but it was part of the draw of the man, which was the point i was making as he took so many fans and generated so much interest the enevitable big fights followed i never said he was world class or a pound for pound great ,he stepped up to the big big ppv fights twice and lost both(but got paid a fortune in the process) i think this was a great bit of managmment as he couldnt lose either way (moneywise)but lets face facts he didnt have the speed, accuracey or power to stand with those guys it was a different class. oh and i thought you were insinuating hatton was going to win also but back tracked when he lost ,i may of read this wrong .. I havent back tracked at all....i thought hatton SHOULD have won yes....size,power,aggression,workrate were all on his side......personally i have just never rated him as high as some....it wouldnt of surprised me if he had won because he is a world class fighter....but NOT a great....but naturally when a world class fighter fights a great fighter much smaller than himself anything can happen.....what i was probably saying in a cocky but humurous way is.....i always told you he wasnt a great because he should have beaten the smaller man....anyway f**k all that ..... Bull you are absolutely right in what you say.....hatton was very well managed,he became a very rich man on limited talent.....thats great management....but for genuine fight fans its a little frustrating, much the same as calzaghe.....we are denied the great fights between prime fighters due to great/clever management......boxing is a short career,a fighter needs to get in make a name for himself and get out as quick as possible without getting hurt and hopefully secure his and his families future.....thats just the way the game works. Now heres a little thing to think about for all you hatton worshippers.........which is the more ridiculous statement........amir khan saying he will win a world title........or ricky hatton saying he will be a boxing legend ?.....which have been said very recently by both......the mere mention of amir khans name makes most folk foam at the mouth....yet he is only doing at an early stage of his career what hatton is doing at the end,yet whos statement is more likely to come true ?.....hatton is a bullshitter of the highest calibre but he has got the public on his side over the years with this boy next door routine.......khan hasnt, yet his statement is much more likely to come true than hattons ever would have. Boxing truths or gullible public you be the judge Edited May 4, 2009 by gnasher16
Guest stewie
gnasher do you reckon cost zuis was washed up when hatton fought him? .at the end of the day hatton is extremly likable and you can relate well to him as hes just like a normal bloke.hes a very face on fighter who isnt a counter puncher ,so the step up in class has told, because the speed, accuracy and power are all more than hatton has got .That punch was the best one punch knock out ive seen since the tyson era. well one thing hatton hasnt got is a lack off heart he hasnt avoided anyone some fights were well thought out but arnt all pros destined for taylor made fights to get the to the point in there career were they can command the big money ,because at the end of the day its ALL ABOUT THE MONEY. and hes just had a massive payday unfortunately i think it will be his last though. Spot on, bird and bull the hunting life psychics  bye bye ricky "the sniff man" fatton what away to end your career :toast: Edited September 12, 2010 by stewie
