87 gr v-max

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys ,

A friend of mine is going to take me on a stalk .My Tikka is running 87 gr v-max .

Its shooting these well for old Charlie . But would it do too much damage to the meat ?

Thanks from a newbie, Wam

sounds good to me mate. if you dont want to risk damaging meat take a neck shot.... but i dont think that bullet would be to bad.

they should be fine for the smaller species of deer, cwd, muntjac, roe, i'd not shoot fallow with them as you may not have good enough penetration with them, i'd try the 87g bthp also by hornady,

these are after all a varmint bullet, so meat damage will be high, neck shot if possible will be best.

snap.

Wam, The law in Wales and England prohibits using; "any rifle having a calibre less than.240ins(6.00mm) or a muzzle energy of less than 1700ft lbs (2305 joules)", for taking any deer apart from the legal exemptions given for CWD and muntjac.. Do you meet the legal requirements?

Will it kill them, absolutely! But as stated before, try for a neckshot. The v-max might make a real mess if you hit any bone.
