Guest grubygrafter
what do you think is the average failure rate of a good working line of terrier. takeing in to account that its not just terrier failure but owner failure also. for example from a mateing you get 10 pups. three are spoiled and two dont make the grade. but five work to a degree two of which work well. this can be looked on as 50% success or 20% success.depending on how you look at it is this acceptable. what is your opinion. Like you say mate ,it depends on what your standards of work are. From a working line of terriers I would expect more to make the grade of honest worker than 2 out of 10 .Line bred terriers are usually let go to people who know the crack as the breeding is kept tight and guarded jealously and rightly so .7 out of 10 would be an average of what Im used to ,but this has varied in the past. Some promissing young terriers turn out to be just too hard and in extremes have lost thier lives because of it .Never had a terrier killed by quarry on the day but extreme batterings have seen a few off .Some of the nervous type, stand off too far dogs have found work as bolt dogs for hunts in the past but with the changed legislation regarding terrier work with hunts a return to honest digging dogs is a good thing for the future of the working terrier. foxdropper.
