RicW 67
This may be a really dumb question. If it is, my apologies for wasting time. Thing is, how do I get my gun from here to there? I live in a small village, and have permission to shoot over a fair amount of land in the area. As I read the regs, I can carry an unloaded shotgun in a closed slipcase. But what's the position with rifled arms? I don't have a car so can I use a closed case to carry a rifle on a motorbike? Quote Link to post
patchworkcrew 0
Hello rickw The regs are the same. If it's on your person then a slip case is fine. If it's left unattended in your car then you would have a problem explaining if it was stolen and wasn't in a secure "car safe" Bob G Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
You can carry an unloaded Firearm in a public place as long as its in a securely fastened gun cover, as has been said If you want to walk across the village with it in that case and provided the magazine and bolt are removed then there can be no doubt the weapon is secure and unfireable. You can certainly use a motorbike to transport you and the gun as well If the gun was stolen from a car, as said above, there is no requirement for you to have a car safe to prove your innocence. If the gun was out of sight in a gun cover and the car was locked and in view then it would be very hard to prove you hadn't taken temporary measures to keep the gun away from "Unauthorised" people and secure. But I wouldn't like to test it personally. SS Quote Link to post

You might consider - if you want more peace of mind or security and you are on a bike - a lockable trigger guard but it's not a legal requirement. Bob G Quote Link to post
spanielman2150 0
i am 15 years old and was wondering if i could walk in a public place with my shotgun if it was in a slip case, i have a sgc but was wondering if the law was different for me Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
Is the gun on your certificate? Quote Link to post
danebrewer10 6
y'gotta also have "reasonable excuse" to have the firearm in the public place as well, like transporting it to or from shooting, though you can't just take it for a walk ;) Quote Link to post

"Going to a bike rally and the lads asked me to get tooled up" might not go down too well Locked top box on the bike with bolt and enough rounds for a day's shooting, gun over me back in the slip case should be well sound then Quote Link to post

I knew a chap who used to ride to clay shoots with his shotgun in it's slip. One day, the strap came away and the Beretta had a damaging run along the A52! After that, he always tied a rope sling on the outside of the case, to take the weight and strain off the stitching / riveting of the strap. Quote Link to post
