danebrewer10 6
Riiiiight.... as promised I zeroed my set up today... but to excuse the groups I'll get some excuses ready it was a bit windy and my bi-pod wouldn't fit on the studs 'cause they were too short... so I had to rest on a bucket.... crap. took a bit of time to get on to the paper, y'know winding too far one way then the other (knowing nods all round ) also i was mystified to start with because the continental scopes go clockwise for higher instead of lower and clockwise for right instead of left.... below are the targets.... some of the groups were big, but some were pretty small.. so I'd put that down to the variable wind and human error,I'm not really concerned about them considering the factory shot target.... which was about 6mm centre to centre Accuracy testing @ 100m- bear in mind I had shot about 55 rounds till here and the barrel was pretty dirty now this was a laugh... I've seen videos of people shooting cans and stuff of water but I wanted to try for myself and to see how the bullet fragmented... it split the damn thing open! the split farthest away from you is actually a cut I made so I could easily get the bullet fragments out... also made a handy brass catcher... aah the red circle is detailing the where the bullet entered the bottle. so there we are! I would have shot another set of groups after cleaning but I busted my 3 piece rod.... well it was meant for an air rifle an i had had it for quite some time.... cleaned it with a pull through made from 50 lb shock leader.... worked alright actually... I'll see if i can spare the time to shoot some "clean bore" groups next week.. after a visit to the gunshop.... sorry gurs, just one more thing.... what ro you guys do about patches and jags? i found I had to cut one patch into three small strips to be able to fit them down the bore..... even with a lot of force (which is how i busted my rod) what do you guys do? SportingShooter 0
Did you happen to run the barrel in Dan? Quote Link to post
dave1372 83
Nice setup, should bring you lots of fun......only one criticism ......the sofa! lol! Quote Link to post
danebrewer10 6
Did you happen to run the barrel in Dan? no I didn't bother cause i looked at the factory shot target of i think 4 rounds at 50m and they're all in a small hole the size of a .243 case head, si i reckoned that they wouldn't have the time to run the barrel in and all that, so i didn't bother... i was a little worried about the group size but having looked at the factory target and cleaned the barrel i'm not that worried.... i'll try and shoot another group next week and post those pics up as a dirty/clean comparison... Nice setup, should bring you lots of fun......only one criticism ......the sofa! lol! aaah the sofa... that's an old sofa we got re-done and with a suitable pattern for it's time period though will admit some old sofas in stately homes are pretty hideous Edited April 27, 2009 by danebrewer10 Quote Link to post

danebrewer10 6
Just out of interest, What does a .17hmr and good scope cost? Cheers, as much or a little as you like!!! Mine cost £715 or so for the rifle and £440 for the scope plus £20 for mounts.... CZ rifles are very good value, starting from around the £300 mark I think, and as far as scopes go, the sky is the limit! you can spend as little as £50-£100 for a scope that will do the job (though not with the clarity and light transmission of the high end scopes) up to in excess of £2000!!!! Have a look on the forum, there's a thread discussing HMR scopes Here Good luck! Quote Link to post

Yep it sure is, but the SAK sound moderator is very effective, my one anyway - try it without the moderator on and the shot sounds very loud. Quote Link to post

danebrewer10 6
well, hopefully if this poxy wind dies down, tonight!! I'll just use my airgun lamp- it works fine out to 50-60 yds or so.... as well as the good glass I might see a bit further.. we'll see! Quote Link to post
danebrewer10 6
well, I did, and I got 3 rabbits from 6 shots, the main problem was the lamp, just couldn't see far enough... I was only able to keep one as the other two were body shots- one from the front and one from the side fairly close about 15/20 yd, it looked fine, but it turned the insides into swiss cheese yuk! so I couldn't be bothered to fart arse around at 12 o'clock at night cleaning the damn thing so I just gutted the one head shot one and gonna skin it in a mo..... overall very pleased! also could have got one or two fox cubs but I couldn't ID them well enough in the lamp...
