Guest jt750
When its retrieving like you wish ..take it out by itself until its fully confident its just the 2 of you. Take it out too early with another dog it might start thinking the other dog (or owner) will take it away and it will stop around 15 feet away from you or worse start killing and stopping Quote Link to post
natter79 17
the retreive is somthing i'm really struggling with, it's easy to get the dog intrested in the ball or toy but as soon as it leaves my hand he'll chase it down then just stand over it and expect me to get it, shows no intrest at all in pickin it up or bringing it back, tearing my hair out Quote Link to post

No it is differnt, with most gundog breeds it is [NATURAL] Retrieve, it is not [NATURAL] running dogs[Lurchers] to Retrieve, But it is [NATURAL] to chase+kill. And dont forget most quarry[ Birds, rabbits] are warm but [Dead]. Ok you get a runner sometimes, but most of stuff dont run feckin 30mph, and it is this big differnce , that why it is pointless to compere the two . Ive had lurchers 25 years, and most all have retrieved. You can get one that wont , but 90% all have . My dog now Bryn , caught a feckin mixy last week, it was 80yds away and brought it to me put it in, and put the fecker on me boot. When training a lurcher to retrieve, the easy part is dummy+ball ,and dead game [rabbit]. The hard part is the [X OVER] to Live Game, that when it gets a bit tricky, because most training can go out of the window, when a young dog is [Excited] If you just take your time with most young lurchers , they will Retrieve . Patience is the [Key] Quote Link to post
