well i have a 5 month old bitch, got her as a present from a mate, cost me nothing.i have no intention of breeding her in the next few years and if i do it'll be because shes worth it.i know i wouldnt have one except i was given it but im looking forward to rabbiting it next year and when its ready i'll run a few hares with shanehound on here, nothing too serious just for a bit of sport.

i think they are stunning dogs ..but its hard enough getting a real good coursing dog from well bred coursing saluki x.s and even harder to get a real good pure.......i cant wait till next season to see how many make the grade and are tested properly......if they are at the right age ..i suppose alot of them on here will have to wait till the season after next.......if i did own one ....i know for a fact it would get tested and not bred from unless it was a real good un ,,,,,,,...

ok if you wanted a world beeting coursing dog/bitch salukixs from the best salukis to some a fashion statement to others a working hound the worlds oldest working sighthound and in my opinion should be workedto keep the instincts strong there an inteligent hound missunderstood by some but greatly appresiated by others yes price can be prohibetive to buy but top quality lines are not bred overnight and demand a premium so like everthing it costs and is passed on

well i got a few snoops ive got an half bred desert bitch which is kizzy pharoh on her fathers side and shes been tested to the hilt believe me and if she wasnt up to the grade she wouldnt be with me theres two pups out of her with two men who have both won the forley at different times and they very good dog men who test theyre animals to the limits and they are very pleased with them. the one problem with salukis in the country to today is they are heavily saturated kizzy pharoh thats why ive used a pure imported desert dog this time. i used to be years ago one of the anti saluki people until i seen a few on now i wouldnt own a dog if it didnt have saluki blood in it. it takes patience to get the best out of a saluki but if youve got the ability to get the best out of em dont worry about em on hare on big land in the middle of the winter because they are more than capable on with very good mouths and lung and coursing ability a point you made about seeing how many make the grade applies more to the coursing lurcher youngsters about at the moment it will be interesting to see how many of those are still about next season after being tested less than fifty percent id say a lot of the lines about now being touted as the producers would more than benefit from an injection of pure saluki blood ive got some usefull single handed animals and some very usefull youngsters i think and bred from top producers but i also wouldnt be with out my pures. theres an old saying in the horse breeding game you must always always go back to the source and the source in the coursing game is the saluki

I've 2 here one 5 the other 3 this year lost a 5 year old in a hunting accident and prior to these I had another till he was 10 years old. My are not for breeding other than if want a pup myself. I've bred one litter and sold them £150. My next dog will likely cost me well over £2000 to bring into the country and I'll certainly not curning out countless litters or selling to anyone that offers money.

I run Salukis because they are far more robust than the crosses IMO and are plenty fast enough for my kind of huntingf and if you work them to their strengths they will have no trouble taking any quarry on any terrain day in day out, mine catch as much as if not more than my lurchers and pick up far less injuries, that will me.

There are plenty of folk involved with salukis that are spending serious amounts of money to bring in fresh blood or traveling considerable distances at considerable expense to use fresh blood rather just any Saluki on their doorstep, hardly the actions of of puppy peddlers.

There are however sadly too many breeding for breeding sake and make a quick buck, the effects of this are already being seen with Salukis carrying serious health issues. :censored:

It's just as well some folk keep and work Salukis or your SalukisX's might be so good as they are.

For too many years lurchermen have put down salukis as useless slow thick animals through their own lack of intelligence.

There any many types of Saluki across world so the fact that some Salukis might not look like others means nothing at all. Plenty of western bred Salukis seem to do well enough back in the hands of Arabs.

IMO on the whole show bred salukis are still doing not bad compared to other breeds in the hands of the show brigade, why because many have spent time in the middle east so know what Salukis are really about.

Only had the pleasure of owning one suluki in my life and was she something, for coursing she was something else[on the right land bit open countryside],for the small fields well she was,nt worth a f**k,for lamping she was useless, she wouldnt even try and for fox she would go through hell to get them, now i know that there will be a lot of lads on here to state different as to what i say,but i say bring your animals to the lands around Ireland are not as big and open as the UK and put your full bred suluki,s to the test,
