Quasar 1
Went out last night and shot a rabbit smack on the head at 35 yards and it went down. We walked over and was just about to pick it up and it bolted and ran for its life. Now, did i simply miss or was there sod all stopping power and the pellet just conucussed the rabbit. ? Guest Scuba1
9.3 is a tad on the low side for a 35 yard shot. I would get that sorted, because you are in the realms of the ratcatcher with that. That and at 9.3 ft/lbs that pellet has a trajectory of a golf ball. ATB Michael Quote Link to post
dj.chapman 0
i would say at the very least you need to be at 10ft/lb. also depends on pellet too. i have aa s410 k and with aa diablo i can kill at 40-45yards with no trouble at 11.5ft/lb but with bisley pest controll its more like 30-35 yards Quote Link to post

Quasar 1
Hi Chaps, Thanks for replies. Its a .22 and yes the chrono was at the muzzle. I am using AA_Field The gun is supposed to be 5 months old, i shall ring AA and confirm this. I am not sure the gun has had 500 pellets through it yet - i have put 100 thru now. If overt the next 100 of target practive there is no improvement, i shall have the gun serviced at a shop. Im not gonna fiddle with it myself. Quote Link to post

AA-S400 chronoing at 9.3ft/lb Hello mate, Ive always been led to believe that 6FPE at the point of impact is all that is needed, so makes no difference if the shot is 10 yards or 35 yards, as long as its at least 6 FPE, and it hits the right place in the head it should die, however if the shot was a head on shot you have a possibility of a ricochet and then it wouldn't have mattered if the impact was at 12 FPE, if you get my point,, now before anyone starts slagging me its only what I have read in some of the mags, lol,, well I hope this helps, PS if I had a nearly new A400 and it was only chronying at 9.3 FPE I would take it back to the shop,,ATB,, Rob.. Quasar 1
Not sure if i can take it back to a shop as i bought it from a member on here in good faith and was a decent fella, and the gun has been treated well and is in fantastic condition. Quote Link to post
BBB 7
a couple of years back a mate 'o' mine bought a brand new s400 from the shop. he notice during zeroing and plinking with the gun it seemed underpowered. he showed me and i agreed. he got the gun chronoed and it was bangin out 9 ftp's. well he took it back to the shop ,who sent it back to air arm's ,who tweeked the gun to the legal limit, air arms apologised to him and sent him back his gun with a 1000 free pellets for his troubles. funny how it's the same gun's me think's production check's need tightening.. elvolcan 0
i would go for 245 ft/lbs every time .17HMR 150yards range and still hits at over 100 ft/lbs Airgun hunting need to be within 20yards ideally - for a good respectful kill ATB Edited April 23, 2009 by elvolcan Quote Link to post

Malt 379
i would go for 245 ft/lbs every time .17HMR 200yards range and still hits at 75 ft/lbs with airguns might as well bang them over the head with a frying pan you need to get so close ATB Bit of a pointless post. Go brag about your toy in the rifle section, mind you some of the boys in there have got even better toys than you! Quote Link to post
