Formula One Trap Dip

Recommended Posts

This is a small review of the formula one trap dip, the dip being used is the brown variant with black and white also available. All traps prior to dipping were jet washed of grease, a light rusting is recommended but not required at all... The main advantages formula one dip has over speed dip is its water based therefore the drying time is substantially quicker, there is no odour once dried and also the benefit that no petrol or camping gas is required to dilute like speed dip and similar products, just water. The formula one took to the bodygrip traps well, although I'd recommend 4 coatings and generally choosing to dip the traps in warmer weather.. The dip is touch dry within 2 hours and useable within 24hrs on the trapline, although I prefer to leave the traps once dipping is completed for at least 2 days to allow the coat to harden fully.. When dipping the traps choose a suitable container that can be resealed as the dip will last until next required if suitably sealed also a correct size to fit the traps adaquately prevents any wastage. When the traps are dipped its best to use a small paint brush once you have let them hang for 5-10 mins and just smooth any runs that may have gathered around the bottom corners of the traps to prevent any unwanted build up. Brown is the optimum colour dip for my own personal use and works very well although being a translucent finish takes more coats than black/white dips.. Dip can rub slightly on the spring area with use against the jaws, but redipping is easy as and when required through the seasons..The dip is also excellent for rapid dying of fox snares, close snare loop then one dip, hang and you have a snare useable within 2 hours, the solution can be thinned further for coating snares if required and another dip given if necessary, just dip new snares and your done, excellent blending, concealment and natural tone.

For Traps the mixture is mixed 1 part F1, 2 parts water. For snares the solution can be thinned further...

Any american trapping shops, its works out $15 a quart, so its neigh on double the price of standard speed dip which is $8 a quart.. They both do the same job, although the F1 is quicker drying and only requires water for dilution.
