advice please, jills in season

Recommended Posts

Just been given 2 jills 10 months old , one may be in season already . just wandering if anyone has a snipped hob down this way for sale or I could bring jills too. Or is it best to get them jabbed up. not that clued up on whats best so any advice would be handy, possibly thinking of going to the local rescues on the off chance of that may have a hob snipped up, as we have plenty of room for another anyway

cheers

unless you find someone living near you, the rescue is a good option, not 100% sure, but some castrate then, rather thansnip, as its cheaper, and a castrated wont get her out of season, so maybe a jill jab for now, then get one of this years hobs, and have him snipped yourself

Like every thing else the cost for the jab will vary greatly depending which area you live in , just ring a few vets & they should be able to tell you over the phone

i think your better getting your jills jabbed for this season and going to a rescue and getting a hob and getting him snipped so your ready for next season if you cant find somebody local with a snipped hob mate .

Only problems could be the jills come back into season and need another injection or picking up a hob kitt from this year it's testes wont have dropped for the op this year

anybody agree ??

There are plenty of intact adult hobs turning up at rescues all the time; but some rescues castrate the hobs and spay the jills because otherwise they could be used to contribute to the problem the rescues are trying to solve (too many ferrets needing homes).

A rescue might, however, get an adult hob snipped for you, instead of getting it castrated. If it were snipped now then it should be safe to use in a couple months and be able to bring your jills out of season, if they did go back into season later on this year after the jill jab.

so how long after the hob has had snip. can he be used?

cheers

I would leave at least 6 weeks

And maybe a bit longer its far better to get organized and get a hob done this year for next year then his tanks will definitely be empty
