Are they the proper European wild boars you have in the UK or just feral pigs? Over here feral pigs are turning up in weird spots, could be hunters releasing them to hunt locally or escaped domestics.

Sound like the proper boars. We don't have them over here but you get some mean ferals. They seem to look different from different areas. I've seen a big mob up in the mountains that looked like pot belly pigs, all really small, even the boars but they had huge tusks.
