how to kill a rabbit

Recommended Posts

If you can`t do it humaneprime.gifly , then i suggest that you dont do it at all , after all its pestcontrol / sport , not the fecking Karate Kid . The quality of any hunter is shown in the respect he gives his quarry , and reading this thread goes to show how much respect some people have .

a karati chop is perfectly humane, i would rather do it like that than handle it for ages trying to get it out of the net, in my book handleing a wild animal however gently should be kept to a minimum since i dont want to push its stress levels through the roof.

?

So you could handle it gently and chin it , or handle it gentle and think your Bruce Lee and whack it one , never being 100% certain it will do the job first time , thus resulting in several blows . There are many ways to break a rabbits neck but choping it in the neck is far from satisfactory

agreed a chop is one of the least effective methods. i never do it and ive seen plenty of people mess it up this way.

i have seen people mess it up but i havent done for a long time, as i say its a last resort for me as i prefer to stretch them and dont know anyone that chins them, i want to learn how to chin them but dislike the idea of practicing on live rabbits and by the time they are dead they already have a broken neck so i wouldnt know if i am getting it right, i'm gonna have to remember to practice on the next dead one i get from a dig, or caught by a dog or shot, etc. but it usually slips my mind.

The thing i would say about karate chopping a rabbit is... lil while ago, i went out ferreting with my mate, p***y (nickname for reasons you can guess), and when a rabbit bolted he grabbed it went to karate chop it and the rabbit moved, didnt it and he ended up karte chopping a old ww2 gun implacment made of concrete...no even jackie chan would have problems cracking that. ironic thing is that the first time ive seen a rabbit move rather than just give up when you grab them.

i use a old ebony walking stick chopped down to clump em, or back of machete across the back of the head or just the pulling technique.

Exactly. Give them respect. Stretch 'em, chop 'em or chin 'em. Any way do it quick and properly and minimise their suffering.

We are hunters, respect your quarry. Cheers, D.

so if swim came here and said that sometimes whilst walking back to their stash-point they stroked the injured rabbit to calm it some then slowly tightend the grip around its neck

you would frown upon that?

(swim = someone who isnt me)

It should be as quick and painless as possible , not sure what your saying , you strangle em ? And why would it be injured ? , if its despatched properly it `should `be dead .

with the weather changing as rapidly as it does during winter its hard to maintain a good zero, sad to say some shots (an honest very few) will incapacitate rather than kill and i find this method of strangleation does seem to be the most peacefull and humaine as the rabbits never stuggle but still seem calm - trust, i couldnt despatch 'em in a seemly painful way

What a load of bollox , so if you shoot one and its not dead , you slowly strangle it ?? The best thing is to break its neck , quickly and painlessly .

chinning is very easy mate, proberly easier than the chop of the stretch, i was shown a few weeks back and defo my fave as you can do it even when there tangles in the net.

Grab the rabit firmly around the neck then place the palm of your other hand under its chin, quickly push the chin over your hand so the top of its head litteraly touches its back, you can hear the click of its neck if done right. i know you say you dont want to practice on live rabbits till you get it right. in my eyes you have to learn some where and if a few have to suffer till you get it right then so be it. it is the fastes method to me.
