jaws66 0
I was just wondering if anyone on here has had any problems with there local council when they have had a mates dogs . If you havent then most of you will need to look at ANIMAL BOARDING ESTABLISHMENTS ACT 1963 . We have just had a letter from our council say that we have broken the law when we had a friends dog while they were away . There mum normaly had the dog but she became unwell the day they were going away . We could be up for a very big fine . If the mods feel this should be deleted please feel free I just dont want anyone else to go through what we are going through . It has really pissed me off as we were only doing someone a good turn . Oh and it doesnt matter if you are haveing them for nothing you are still boarding them THANKS JAWS66 Edited April 20, 2009 by jaws66

How did they come around to be thinking that you were boarding dogs???? Surely you werent boarding them though.............I suspect that you had indeed purchased the dog from you friend, and as such it was therefore your's. However, after two weeks or whatever it became apparent that the dog did not get on with your current ones. Therefore, the previous owner i.e. your mate, being a responsible dog owner took the said dog back off of you?.

Fenlander 0
Were you receiving payment for having the dog..??? This text is copied from the DEFRA website: Animal Boarding Establishments Act 1963 Establishments where the boarding of animals is being carried on as a business are subject to the 1963 Act, which requires such establishments to be licensed by the local authority. For the purpose of this Act the keeping of such establishments is defined as the carrying on at any premises, including a private dwelling, of a business of providing accommodation for other people's cats and dogs. The licence is granted at the discretion of the local authority which may take into account the suitability of the accommodation and whether the animals are well fed, exercised and protected from disease and fire. To my mind, it is clear that the Act only relates to businesses..??

If I had said that the dog was not mine then we would have been investigated , and at this time we could do without the hastle . The friend only lives across the road . What we should have done was leave the dog over at theirs and look after it from there . YOU LIVE AND LEARN
webby 31
Who was the great person that went talking to the council about it because they must love you. if you havent admitted to anything on paper then it wouldnt stand up in court as you just say that you bought them. would it be different if they stayed in your house or is it just because of kennel hygiene/HSE

jaws66 0
I have just been back on the DERFA web site and found that if you arer home boarding any dog/dogs you still need to be licenced the statement underneath is from the DEFRA web site . Its all a crock of shit   Will home boarders need to be licensed Yes – there is pressure from stakeholders to include home boarding in the new regulatory system. It is our intention to more clearly define home boarding to assist both enforcers and those running home boarding establishments.
