reloading 22-250 (recipes for tight groups)

Recommended Posts

Im shooting with a browning a-bolt 26" barrel 1 in 14 twist

at the moment using H380 powder and hornardy v-max 55 gr bullets

but i am open to any sugestions

thanks Al

Your H380 is a good powder - used it myself until I found N150 for the 55gr V Max

I dont know how serious you are at home loading - do you use a comparitor for your bullet ogive measurements, do you neck turn, do you weigh your empty new cases to get roughly the same weight, do you weigh your bullets and batch them to the exact weight?? Choice of primers? Do you know the exact headspace of the cases?

All the above help in getting the rifle to shoot better groups. I have two 22.250 - bog standard rifles (Rem700 & Blaser)

I know most reloaders will tell you to seat the bullet head somewhere between 30 and 15 thou back from the lands - this is fine for them that use AIs or bench rest custom rifles - both of my rifles have their bullet heads seated 137 thou back from the lands

Hopefully (1st attempt at this) a piccy of a 4 shot group I did a couple of months ago - the stray bullet was difinitely me pulling the last shot (Christ I'm well over 60 :wallbash: )
