beaner 0
Hi everyone a question that has been asked a thousand times so may as well make it a 1001. I collect my new puppy on Wednesday he is Springer and i cant wait. I have borrowed a book off a frined of mine for training. But i would love some advice from anyone out there as there are so many members on this site and the more help i can get would be great. What in your opions are the basic training i should start with and at what stages do you start to progress to the next. The puppy will be 8 weeks on Wednesday i have a decent sized cage for him and he will be living indoors. He will be coming to work with me at the start as i want as much to time to bond with him in the early stages. Any tips, help, information on books, dvds, training classes (i live just on the edge of Dartmoor) would be very much appreciated. Cheers everyone. Quote Link to post
coldweld 65
SIT is the main one . sit before food, sit before fussing. House training is just take the dog out alot and praise when it empty's. Get the pup used to a lead and put the effort in from day one to heal, springers like to pull ! Don't do much for six months let him be a puppy, Keep your cool as much as you can remember he only knows what YOU teach him ! He WILL chew it is your job not to put him in the situation where he can chew your best shoes. Be patient if you rush your training you will have a dog that is unruly, runs in,is not listening to commands and puts you on edge when you should be having fun ! GOOD luck and have fun . P.s I recommend THE COMPLETE GUNDOG TRAINING MANUAL by James Douglas Quote Link to post
