BSA .22lr any good?

Recommended Posts

As some will know i have been wanting to get my FAC for and absolute age now, but due to farmers letting me down and me loosing my job it has somewhat put it back on the back burner.

And still with no job, i think i'm just goin to say stuff it and try get a rifle.

I was originally looking at a CZ american .22lr, but that is now out of my budget (unless i find one secondhand for the right amount). so through my searches i have come across loads of BSA supersport or similar with either a tubular magazine or the clip tpe, all for reasonable money.

So how do these rifles perform, im not after a prize winning target rifle, just something cheap, reliable and something for me to knock those pesky rabbit out with.

Thanks. joe.

the cheapest i can find is around the 280-330 mark, and not many second hand ones are about .

get on the phone and have a good ring round...they are out there.........the rifle and price iv quoted was off a dealer with no trade discount......im not saying they are easy to find at that price but they are out there

Get your self to an auction. I kid you not you will find decent .22s going for as little as a fiver. Obviously the better the rifle the higher the price. If you are going to get a BSA Rimfire go for the Supersport rather than the Sportsman 5/15. The Supersport is grooved for a scope. The Sportsman series hark from a time when telescopic sights weren't in general use and it's a proper pain to fit them with a scope.

Yeah I agree totally with Harry mac, I own a BSA sportsman its still as accurate as ever but the scope mounts onto the side and it took me about a year or more to find a scope to fit it. The one I enentually found is by gamo and is crap after about 30yards which is grand as v little of what I use it for takes place beyond that range. My advice is be patient and save a little more for something a bit more modern.
