(Area: big track/field with plenty of cover followed on the left hand side is the bank to the river.) There are plenty of rabbits down there NO HOLES can be found!! The last 2x times we have been lamping on this pitch every time being around 10pm-1am, we have walked right through to the end and have put a call on as apparently there is lots of red coats down there. Every time we have been down there you can always hear a fox taking a rabbit from in the bushes. When we walk back down to where we start we have started hearing this very high and very loud pitched noise coming down down the bank as parts of it you could think it was human. Its happened everytime we have been there. This thing is absolutely screaming. It goes quieter and then it threatens really loud. All you can hear on top of the bank before the river is something russling through the brambles? Anyone know what it could be. I have a disc with calls on but none of them match it, very confused!!! Can anyone help?? Next time i go down there i will try and record it to find out if i can match it with something? Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Im positive its a bird, there are some ducks an pheasants etc about, whether the fox is on its trail an is passing an its going bizerk as its close to their nesting area i really dont know. But one of the boys said he actually walked down the river way the other night and put the lamp on and there was 4 foxes sitting on the bank?? Well hopefully we will soon find out as we'r hopin to lamp down on the river path rather than the bank path next time, so will inform on what i think it is. Quote Link to post Share on other sites
Guest miller1989 Posted April 21, 2009 Report Share Posted April 21, 2009 Its a fox there all over at the minute, likely a vixen letting off a loud screeming,barking noise its to get your attention and follow her,its a way of protecting her cubs as there will be some in the area if your seeing that many foxes,when shes screeming its a warning! When the cubs are old enough to go mooching by themselves but still with mummy and you see them in the lamp a little squeak and a cub will be interested but if the mother has been squeeked and the lurcher/gun etc never caugh her she will also bark then its calling the cubs away as she knows we a trouble! Tried to keep that as simple as i could for you atb miller Lots of birds of prey make very high pitched screaming sounds, and especially as you are so close to water, ie, a river, it is probably hunting mice, rat, shrews etc. hope this helps... josh-waddingham 13 Posted July 15, 2009 Report Share Posted July 15, 2009 it wont be owl if it was a tawny owl this bird will be whisteling and barn owls hiss and shreek, there are three possibilities either fox cubs but you will hear it more than once at a time or a vixen calling in cubs they make a loud really high pitched noise exactly to your specification and one other thing it could be a badger as badgers tend to make weird noises, but if you say theer were foxes then it is deffanitely either a vixen calling the cubs or fox cubs them selves, if its screaming then its a vixen, if its a high pitches cheap same kind of noise that cheetah cubs make then it is fox cubs Quote Link to post Share on other sites
