I see your not sorry about assaulting some poor sod whats money got to do with bad behaviour lifts to school whats that got to do with bad behaviour when I was a kid I walked 4 miles to school my parents had no money but I knew the differance between right and wrong and I didnt go around commiting acts of ABH

You claim to learn by your mistakes what have you done about it??

How many hours of voluntary work do you do when did you last help anyone??

You are clearly not mature enough to have a licence let alone a gun

why are you waiting until august ? there is no minimum age for a shotgun license

There is if you are applying without your parents consent. You cant buy a gun or cartridges until 17, but he can have a gun gifted to him if he has a licence under the age of 17.

Otherwise a 10 year old could apply for a licence and buy a gun without telling Mum!

At 17 you can apply for a licence and keep at your parents (or any) home with their permission, unless you have your own property. You can then also buy, swap and sell guns on that licence.

consent wasnt the issue here , it was the fact Andyy believed he had to be 18 to apply

1. Yes, but get someone to spell check your application for you

2. Yes

3. But it also applies that you can only shoot with another cert holder who is over (21/17?not sure) until you are 17. That applies whether you have your own weapon or not.

4. As many have said before on similar threads, conviction aside, are you a member of a shooting/clays/hunting club. If not then join one, it looks good on your application if you have made such an effort and have insurance, not that it is a requirement. Do you have mentors, again not a requirement but it is good to discuss this with the officer (i.e. who are you going to be shooting with).

5. Archie. You brought up the comment on minimum age, not me. There is minimum age.

6. iamdurvern. Who made you the judge and jury, no-one. He who casts the first stone and all that. You can be deemed irresponsible for licence ownership based on a few speeding fines. I agree with you that being convicted for ABH is not a good precendent. I hope it is in the past and he has matured a bit since then. I wish him best of luck for his behaviour in the future. Afterall we are all judge by each others behaviour!

Best of luck

NO there is NOT a minimal age for a SGC. Dont spread shit about the laws unless you are sure about them.

More like dont listen to You. Make sure you know the law before you go saying stuff about it, you could get some one in trouble

thankyou for your help, i think im going to leave it a while, then try in a few years thanks

My local officer told me that a conviction had to be five years old to be considered "spent" in relation to firearms applications. Good luck. Cheers, D.

I'm pretty sure you have to have done time (of a specified length) to be refused. Submit application anyway - nothing to lose, and if you get refused, try again in a few years. Trusnt me, its no big deal.

Download firearms guidance to the police from HMSO ..... can't find my copy, but its a good read.

Can we all calm down please?

Lets look at the facts

http://www.basc.org.uk/en/utilities/docume...2B8C3A18D1BAAA2

There is no legal minimun for the certificate (see above). I thought it was 2 years old but apparently this was recently fought and won in the courts so that there is now no legal minimum.

But there is a legal minimum age for an independent application. In other words, you cannot buy a shotgun or ammo before you are 17 and therefore you need parental of legal gaurdian permission under that age. I believe this is in the signatory part of the application (Part E).

The next thing you need to check if whether the officer will want evidence of permission for you to keep the firearms locked at the house you reside in if you do not own the property. If he does not check this he is not doing his job properly! This will be helped if someone else in your household allready has a certificate/cabinet etc etc, but you did not say this.

I recommend you get such permission in writing anyway and show that you are taking leadership on the issue (in addition to the ideas I told you earlier)

Lastly. A conviction is NEVER spent in terms of firearms law and you must list all current and spent and previous convictions (ususally "normal" speeding fines/points are exempt).

Therefore perhaps we could conclude this listing with saying that we all need to read the above document (myself included). And that Andy should apply now if he is 17, but include a parental support letter, a letter of support from his cosignatory (it is not necessary but it is great if that cosig is a shooting man/woman and proof of some regular club attendance etc etc. These will help you but you dont have to do it legally. But then because of your past the police have a right to refuse your application.

Convictions count, even spent convictions need to be declared and will be taken into consideration.

A conviction for violence in the recent past would make it highly unlikely that your application would be considered.

what about if it was over 20yrs ago? for an F.A.C
