fireman 10,859
Abereiddy, St. Davids headland, Newgale, etc. I've fished all those places and done well each time,Newgale's a good smoothhound beach at night on a low tide.Off to the left just before you reach the headland at St Davids head is a good conger spot, bit of a climb down but nothing to bad. There's ment to be some sized fish in the blue lagoon but i've only caught pollock in there, off the beach there your'll get bass and i've seen no end of sea trout jumping at dusk there.Strumble head at the light house isn't as good as it looks but try to get on the outher breakwater at Fishguard and your'll catch all sorts, take a boat rod and fish for conger down amongst the rocks you stand on but hit them hard and wind like feck or your'll never get them up.If you go there tell the port blokes your going to the train station if they still don't let you up there walk up the railway line(disused station on the other side of the road from the port on the bridge, climb over the gates, trains only run when the ferries dock or leave so quite safe)and they won't see you, thats how i used to get there, the inner breakwater your'll catch doggies all day long casting on the left handside towards the outer wall, drop it in close for pouting and your;ll catch some grand sized bass bait in small whiting as well, conger off there sometimes at night as well but not often.Little bit more north for Newport and the beach there is a chance for talbot, smoothhound and bass, estuary for flatties.Nearist live worm shops are in Havaford though, other shops do sell frozen blacks, crabs and fish not live worms though, you can dig them in Solva and will get blacks, lug, white rag and all sorts of other things in the rocks, elvers, blennies, mussles, peelers etc. Can't fecking wait to move back there mate ,tight lines and all that. Never done much fishing 'over the other side' as we say round here! I've been keen to go over there and do a bit for a few years now, but we usually end up going somewhere closer, here in the south of the county. I'm lucky with regards to bait though, I seldom buy my own. Nothing beats going down to my few spots that aren't frequented by the masses with lug pumps, and decent numbers still exist. fireman 10,859
I've never fished down south as it were but have heard some grand reports of good fishing under the toll bridge towards Pembrook docks, there's a little cove outside St Davids between there and Solva called the tugboat beach(there is no beach but a sunk boat in bits, locals should now where it is)that at low tide is a bass belter, have seen some good sized mullet there as well mate.Later on in the year the river tivy in cardigan off the foot bridge is another bass hot spot, you can look down and see them below you.You have to use live sandeel or crab at low tide, poppit sands you can catch or dig up sandeels quite easily. There's not many spots between St Davids and Cardigan i haven't tried and by now your'll allways get some makeral an hour before or after high tide round there,we used to fish in a canadian canoe up to a mile out as well round there but ramsey sound is fecking scarry and i'd never do it again. You can get some good fishing at a few points along the Haven, but it's a bit like everywhere now, hit & miss. I know a few cracking spots for Bass a bit further up the estuary. The tides can be a bit ferocious around the Ramsey area, especially on a strong tide. There's some videos of kayakers fecking around on the bitches somewhere on the net, fecking mental!
