New to all this - advice for a beginner?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've recently become introduced to outdoor sports through a friend who was kind enough to take me beating on a local shoot. SInce then i've had a crack at clay shooting and now, its fair to say a dormant interest in field sports has been aroused from within!

I'm thinking of starting small and purchasing an air rifle as I know a few lads who possess them and do a bit of rough shooting of small game, but my thought process ends there!

Can anyone suggest the best way of getting into the sport? Ultimatly, i'd love to have a full or half gun on a local shoot or even have a crack at deer stalking but i dont want to go that far just yet. I'm happy with firearm safety as i'm an officer in the armed forces, I just want to know about the ettiquette and right way to go about taking my first few steps into hunting.

Any suggestions from any grizzled veterans out there?

If its air rifles you want to strt with then head over to the airgunners section. Just post a thread there with any questions and things like that. There are many "Grizzled Veterans" as you put it (and some of us not so grizzled I might add) who will be more than willing to help you. They can help you decide on what gun to start with etc etc.

But don't be afraid to branch out into other sections of the forum aswell to satiate your other interests.

All the best

Freddy
