hi. can anyone please tell me what cross you get if u cross a 3/8 5/8 to a 1/2 cross. any further info on genetics and crosses would be extremely helpful. many thanks :good:

do you intend breeding this percentage,i believe this mating to be very rare.i prefer using a 5/8 3/8 greyhound to a first cross instead of a 3/8 5/8 greyhound to a first cross because its not as diluted with greyhound blood which gives the cross less stamina.regards collie john.

I worked mine out to be

3/6 greyhound 1/6 collie 1/6 whippet 1/6bull

The dam was bull x greyhound

the sire was collie greyhound x whippet greyhound

count the names (look at the brackets) Theres six

The dam was (1)bull x (2)greyhound

the sire was (3)collie (4)greyhound x (5)whippet (6)Greyhound

so the result will be in ?/6

I then counted 3 greyhound

The dam was bull x (1)greyhound

the sire was collie (2)greyhound x whippet (3)Greyhound

and then all the 1's

Not sure if this is the proper way it works out though

greyhound,greyhound,greyhound,greyhound,greyhound (5/8)

Bull, Bull, Bull (3/8)

bull (1/2)

Greyhound (1/2)

6/10 greyhound 4/10 Bull ????????????????????

on paper your percentages may be right, but when you have say more than two breeds in their makeup they could throw more of one cross than the other, thats the downside in mixing to many crosses in lurcher breeding.regards collie john.

Burnie was right with the percentages

Rabbithunter....you're dog is:

1/2 Greyhound

1/4 Bull

1/8 Collie

1/8 Whippet

Look at it this way....

Dam = 1/2 Bull 1/2 Greyhound

Sire = 1/4 Collie 1/4 whippet 1/2 Greyhound

Multipy everything x 2 so you have

2/4 Bull 2/4 Greyhound

2/8 Collie 2/8 whippet 2/4 Greyhound

Now just divide the top numbers only, by 2

So you have

1/4 Bull 1/4 Greyhound

1/8 Collie 1/8 whippet 1/4 Greyhound

The greyhound appears twice so add them up to give you 1/2

So you are left with

1/2 Greyhound

1/4 Bull

1/8 Collie

1/8 Whippet
