aaronpigeonplucker 32
1. whats your price range? 2. do you want spring or prehcharged? Quote Link to post
Sterry 0
IMHO i think everyone should start with a spring gun, firstly they are cheap, powerful, reliable,no need for expensive accsesories (charging equip), and myself and other agree that spring guns make you a better shot, than if you start with a pre charged. the only disadvantage to them is thats they recoil a bit, bit louder (but if you shoot the thing you aiming at they wont mind) and thats all i can think of. aaronpigeonplucker 32
if you are starting with a spring gun then a lightntning xsl are a good choice advantages: its light powerful comfortable to hold cheap (£340) and accurate. comes with silencer. is not pellet fussy disadvamtages: a bit twangy when you fire it. and a litlte loud. Sterry 0
CHEAP! i brought my RWS excalibre (Oiled walnut stock), 8 shot, pump, scope (hawke 3-9x50ir) case and pellets for £320.oh and a shite silencer but i brought a better one something like a S/h BSA cometa or as the lad says a lighning. just avoid SMK like the plague. Go second hand springer and you'll get alot more for your hard earned moneys. Quote Link to post
Ron Weasley 83
Look at the Weihrauch HW range. HW95 would be an good starting point, or if you're more slight, then maybe an HW99. Can't knock BSA Lightnings either, excellent value for money. Edited April 14, 2009 by Ron Weasley Quote Link to post
cbw 4
I have the HW95K (Springer), I used to have a pneumatic sharp innova(Which is still super accurate but leaks!!). I wish I had spent a few quid more and bought another PCP from the start, now I have the rimfire and want a .243 I cannot justify buying one. Save for a bit longer and buy the PCP! As people say 'buy cheap buy twice' CBW Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
Hi, mate. When you've an idea as to what you fancy, have a look at the 'for sale' section on this site. Some very keen deals pop up regularly! Cheers. Quote Link to post
shaun sale 0
best thing to do go to your local gunshop see the guns hold them have a fire then pick what suites you best. try not to read reviews in any airgun mags because they dont tell you the full story.ask the lads on here they will tell you the truth and between us have a vast selection of guns rangeing from anyfr1968s gat gun with heat seaking pellets to timelords masterpice and they got a hole lota knolage aswell. hope this helps happy hunting Edited April 15, 2009 by shaun sale Quote Link to post
StephOC 6
This may not be much use, but I didn't know what air riffle I wanted for Christmas, and when I started seeing the different sorts and pricetags of £300+ it seemed like a lot of money for something I din't know anything about. So I asked around and got given 2 and a loan of one, from really unlikely people. I know thats a bit too jammy, but if you have any friends or family, (or maybe someone on here?) who'd lend you theirs to try out, or take you out with them when they go shooting stuff, you might get to know what suits you a bit better first and be able to make a slightly more informed choice. CZ452American 0
i think nuematitic falkon praries are brilliant air rifles the kill rabbits up to 50 yards Quote Link to post
mick01 36
alot of different answers there! all great advice, i agree with buy cheap buy twice myself, for under £350 there are some good guns avilable on this site, keep an eye out for all the guns mentioned, but dont be put off by pcp's.. any advice you need the fellas on here will keep you right, they just cost a few more notes, good luck anyway mate Quote Link to post
Freddy Watts 1
i think nuematitic falkon praries are brilliant air rifles the kill rabbits up to 50 yards Alot of 12ft/lbs air rifles can in theory kill a rabbit up to 50 yards. If the person knows how to shoot it, if the conditions are right and if the pellet hits the kill zone. A rifle does not kill a rabbit at fifty yards unless someone aims it and pulls the trigger. And considering this is someone who is buying their first air rifle they won't (hopefully) be shooting at anything alive for a while untill they learn how to shoot the rifle that they buy. Even then not many experienced shooters will use a 12ft/lbs gun at 50 yards as the chances of getting a clean hit are lower. So telling someone who is new to airgunning that "this gun will kill rabbit as 50 yards" is a pretty irresponsible thing to say. So although there is nothing wrong with Falcon Prarie rifles, the last part of that statement is a pretty pointless and silly thing to say. Keep an eye on the for sale section here and there are often things popping up in this board. If you an find a cheap PCP and don't mind the hassle of chargin it up then if you can find a cheap one then great. However personally I would find a decent springer. My first was a BSA Lightning. Very nice gun. You can oftne pick up second hands ones pretty cheap and even new ones are not too expensive. All the best Freddy Quote Link to post
