if you go on the park side of the transporter bridge there is an industrial est...drive through there untill you get to the cement works park there ...and walk to your left its a brilliant little spot..you might allready know it.

if i am right in thinking when you go through the gates of the industrial estate there is a old railway line there,my mates has a boat up there, there is a load of rickety old jettys going down to the water edge, never fished down there myself but another freind who has a boat there who tells me its a good spot for flatties and dabs,if you look over the opposite side to the water from where the mouth opens up you will see a big flat peice of concrete ,by the concrete there is a small old concrete shed there,we fish over there every now and again ,only problem is you have to drive round to where the entrance to llanwern steel works is and then walk across a load of fields ,you will walk past what is known as the dutch light house ,basically a small little tower with a light on,where this concrete patch is is a good spot for cod, casting out around 150 yards gets you over all the mud and into a gully, had some good 5lb cod from this spot, will see if i can find any pics to put up,looking forward to another trip soon on my mates boat in penarth,if you type up lady helen penarth and look at the catch reports and go back looking at previous catch reports you will see a pic of me with a good size cod,its under a trip from cwmbran, might have to go back a few pages to find it but its a good fish, good boat to go on if you like your boat fishing,as much tea as you can drink as well, will see if i can find any pics ,tight lines

never fished it myself but a mate who is into his tournament casting goes over to clevedon and fishes a spot which requires you to get your bait out around 150 yards,he sais they get some good results down there on the cod and also on dover sole, will be planning a trip this summer with him, have to get my casting reels out,i tend to have done more boat fishing in the last year and knowing my luck will get into some overruns on my reel

i think the area you are talking about and by your pic is what we call farm fields....that is a very good low water mark...its just opposite the pier head....at the right time of the year can produce some good bass. the area i was trying to explain is a bit further up the river.
