Happy fishing mate.

hi there hob ,what is the situation with barry docks,i was told you could not fish it years ago and have been told recently that they allow it,have you had much luck with the bass down there, one thing i have never caught is a bull huss, been with loads of lads with when they caught them but never had one myself, will get one one day,my hooks only seem to attract congers and thornback lol,i enjoy fishing the nap, easy acsess and close to the car, seen some big cod come off there, which part do you fish mate as i know each person had there best spots,i usually fish just in front of the car park, where to is jacksons bay?not sure if i been there, sounds familiar though, tight lines

alrite wfe, You can definately fish Barry Dock mate, I usually fish in front of Morrisons had some good bass there. The best bait is live prawns which you can catch in a drop net over the white-light breakwater. also catch Ballan Wrasse, good size pollock and good size flatties in there but ive only seen them be caught i havnt caught any myself. Jacksons Bay is Barry Island, up past the old Butlins camp. at the junction at the top take a left, follow the road around and you will see the white-light on your right. Park on the right and walk down the hill to the beach, you can either fish off the break-water or do as i do fish off the rocks on the right hand side of the beach, if your going to fish the rocks you need to get there quite early as anything over a 9 metre tide the water cuts you off from the path which leads to Barry pleasure beach. The last trip 2 weeks ago me and my father had 6 doggies and 4 bull huss each. It fishes better on the out going tide and you get some nice congers on slack water i had an 11lb 7oz conger 3 months ago on a pouting fillet at slack water, nice fish it was. The Knap i usually fish sraight down from the toilets had 13 doggies between me and the old man last sunday, 30 people fishing and they were coming in , in 2's and 3's everyone was catching.

tidy mate, sounds like you been doing a bit mate,we planning a trip hopefully on wednesday down porthcawl pier,my mate went monday and had a few doggys,he only fishes for pleasure and does not fish for anything big, seen afew good congers come off there so if the trip goes ahead i will be fishing 2 rods 1 for doggies and a bigger hook size and bait for some congers, any idea what the tidetimes are mate on porthcawl for wed, thur, fri,i tried looking on the net but could not work it out, will see if i can find some more pics to put up ,cheers kev

a pic of a half decent ray from last summer, this was caught on a boat, they were coming in tidy on the boat, all 3 of us had a few,the day i had this one my mate who was sitting next to me was chatting to me and we both heard a noise and his rod was gone,he was gutted, only a old rod but the reel was a penn 525 and he had it only 2 weeks before this trip,i could not keep a straight face,he seen the funny side in the end and he ties his rod up all the time since, going to have to find my tide times, always losing them,if you have any idea what high tide is next week in porthcawl can you let us know, cheers kev

do you ferret them mate and take dogs with you or shoot them, there is a god couple down the foreshore in cardiff, took my dogs down there bushing a few times and then let them go and have a swim, loads of rats down there as well but they go in the rocks, good bit of fun down there with the dogs though, seen a few foxes down there as well, cant take my dogs fishing with me ,took them to many times and they now as soon as i start reeling in there good chance of something being on the end,see them gripping hold of small congers, they love it,will see if can get some more pics of what we had on the boat last summer

We go down there shooting with the air guns we found a few good spots on rough ground along the side of the shore's keep meaning to have a day in the car and drive along and fined some new places ive heard there is alot of rabbits up towards avonmouth end , went to brean the other week there was a few lads fishing of the end of brean down havent seen anyone fish of there before :good:

never fished that part either down brean, always like to try new places, last year we got lost going to swansea and as time was running out we found a small stretch of beach by a main road ,we pulled up and parked the car, people walking there dogs on the beach said they never seen anyone fish there before, thin the reason being is if you followed the coastline you could see it was a point where the the sae came close in,we thought what the hell we are here now and gave it a bash,we had a few small school bass and my mate had a small conger, problem is we cant work out where it is now, fish in lyme regis every now and again ,great fishing and if you fish by the fossil beach there is bunnys everywhere in the late evening, next time we go down for a weekend will be taking the airrifle with us for a bit of sport,we could see the bunnys in the light of the tilly lamp all night within 50 yards of us,speak soon mate

top man mate, appreciate that, can work it out from there, you out this weekend mate,if so where you heading, also what reels and rods do you use mate,do you pendulum or overhead thump?i would say i pendulum but it a bit scruffy is my cast, need to get a bit more of practise in,can get my bait out around 150 on a good day, thinking of switching to braid,i already use it on my boat reels so might put some on my old daiwa millionaire and see how i get on with it

Hi Wife, i'm not fishing this weekend doing the front garden saturday and clearing some bunnies for someone sunday morning near Monmouth, went there two weeks ago had 1 bunny and 12 rats, wasnt happy about the rats they were bigger than my hob, yet it was my small jill that bolted them, the guy knows other people that are having problems with summertime bunnies so he's asked me to clear them for him, I wont be killing them just catch and relocate where i hunt locally in the winter. just hope the hob don't kill in.

Possibly going fishing next friday as i've got a day off work so i might look to go down to Ogmore for the flatties if not i might try Aberthaw for the bullies and Bass (try and hit a smoothy down there if i can) I'll see how the mood takes me.

bunnys everywhere at the moment aint there mate, lets hope they have a good breeding and dont get bothered by mixy,we get asked to do a bit of bunny control every year ,as soon as they cut the maze we go out there and ferret them, depending on how many we get we relocate them as well,i had to make all new pursenets 2 years ago for ferreting in the summer as we were losing alot of small bunnys, made a load of nets with 1 inch mesh on,dont like knocking bunnys on the head this time of the year but the farmer is quite happy for us to bag them up alive and take them else where, funnily enough the other farm where we take them is good for pigeon shooting but poor for bunnys and the farmer is quite happy for us to release any bunys on there ,we release them just behind his house amongst a big pile of wood and old tyres,he said his kids like to see them and so does his wife,we only take a few of there each season to keep the numbers there, got some more pics tp put up that i found will put them up,let us know how you get on if you fish ogmore,we will be going out 1 day this week only down porthcawl for a bash, will take some pics

one of those days when we had fish jumping on the hooks that were not as big as the bait we had on there
