Rabbit Snaring

Few more, I'm getting fatigued now ...

 

 

One for you poacherkev a before and after shot, notice I've just enlarged the mesh pulling on top and bottom to increase killing area, also I have covered the top piece of netting with the snare to break up the outline of the snare, sometimes if you set too low a rabbit will jump through the mesh and knock it OR be caught around the shoulders/hip area...I've had a few knocks on some of the snares, these are all new snares on the photos, what you will find though is, this time of year the rabbits are feeding during the day and with light nights on an evening, some can see the snares even though they are up high, and try to jump through the snare, just as if its the fencing, this I've witnessed, some may disagree but a weathered snare this time of year helps prevent this to a degree, as pegandgun has mentioned in the past, although during the night hours it doesn't make a jot of difference...

No taz, had it incase I spotted a roebuck .. I'm going to lamp the farm this week, still a lot around and the farmers want me to drive the crops to get them down further...

good going Ian, ive been out and set some this evening, wont be taking the lurcher pup with me next time though!

 

it went some thing like this

 

set first snare, walk up field set second snare, walk back down field remove puppy from first snare walk up field to set third snare, walk back down field to extract puppy from second snare, shout at puppy, move on to set fourth snare, look back to see puppy chewing twine attatching third snare to peg, give up sit down for a smoke!

Fair play to you Ian, great post. A very satisfying method of pest control I've got a similar plan for this weekend, a bit of snaring with the hope of Roe buck... You know what they say about best laid plans though Are you taking a buttolo out with you? Any interested yet?

Had another 10 out of them the other day and 4 today... So I've lifted them up off the fenceline...Got another new spot to do next week, but I'll be using hoops and bodygrips also..
