very well done looks like a good job done with alot of skill!

whenever i use snares i never seem to get anything and you make it look so easy.

so do you have any tips?

like how high to set off the floor.

whether to set them just in front the fence or in the fence e.t.c

cheers paul

Hello paul I'm no expert by any means, but look for runs coming into the field, you need to set your snares 6"-7" or higher to the bottom of the noose curve directly over the rabbits beats, areas it flattens as it runs out to into the field... set higher in longer grass and foilage... For fence snaring some runs are obvious others are not so obvious, some are easy some are not..Ensure your noose is neither to big or too small, and allows enough clearance for a rabbits feet to pass under, if you do not allow this you will still snare them although round the hips or chest....When they pass through a fence its easy normally, on a fenceline were the fence is high up from the floor and the rabbits are free to run at will under it, you can snare certain active areas, but other times its hard to define them, what I do is emphasise runs using my heel, and use dead twigs to guide them in from wider areas were they may veer off a run slightly... Just get out there and learn from your mistakes, we never stop learning... Oh and one tip, if theres no rabbits, you won't get big numbers, but see through the signs, open your eyes to things you would walk past normally and not notice and you will snare them easily....

Well checked them again yesterday, the farmer had been over when we were emptying them the previous day, so I think he was a bit keen to see what was in them, came to check them on the morning and some had been removed?? He'd been along and emptied some of them, putting them into the trees as you will see, kind of him, then made an attempt at resetting them...lost another few to badgers or foxes, gone completely.. Heres a few photos anyway..

I also managed to sort a farm I've been wanting to get on for awhile now, I snared one hedgerow right down, hands are still tingling off the nettles this morning  .. They have a serious problem as I walked down the number of rabbits seen, and the fenceline was a dream to snare... Photos later..

Really good thread Ian, love the wires myself pal........Rob Sharpe sent me down a load last year as payment for a lewd act committed upon me when I was very very drunk in the Fells :icon_redface:

I feel a bit guilty because they have not seen the light of day yet........there allways seems so much to do (and I am just pissing about with a new Beretta which is taking up a fair bit of time :D )

You cant help knocked snares at this time of year anyway what with a few young about...........I cant get my head around fence wires at all, they allways end up looking a bundle of shite.

Anyway, good work and keep it coming :thumbs:
