Mr_Logic 5
You're using the 22 for rabbits and the 223 for foxes? Well for the 22 I'm not sure at the moment, basically something that goes bang should work. 223, well CZ 527 is my choice, or a Remington of some description. My CZ cost me £410 (but that was before these price increases), and weighs sod all, but is accurate (1/2 to 3/4 MOA) and reliable. My Remington is a tad heavy for field work as it's an SPS Tactical, but it shoots 1/2MOA and isn't ammo fussy. Bear in mind with 223 for fox work, that ideally you will want good optics for it, and they're likely to cost as much as the rifle, so if I were you I would budget about £1400 for the complete kit. There's no point in buying a sporting centrefire without decent optics, as you will only get a fraction of the enjoyment. I learned the hard way - don't make the mistake! My overall choice for 223 is: CZ527 American £600 (you could substitute Tikka T3, Remington SPS here, same sort of price and will do the same sort of job. I like CZs as their mini-Mauser design is properly made without cut corners) Bushnell Elite 4200 or Nikon Monarch scope £400-odd ASE JetZ CQB moderator £300 Bipod £100 Scope mounts £50 TOTAL £1450 You're going to be thinking, "How do I bring that price down?" Answer is you don't... Save up! I have swapped rifles around so much it's silly, trying to save money here and there. But you can't. Centrefire is very expensive, so just be prepared! You will get a lot of people saying you can cut corners with the scope, and a lot of people do. I've tried a lot of £200-odd scopes, and spent a lot more than if I'd just bought decent kit to start with. You'd beat my scope choice handsomely by adding another £500 and buying Swarovski, but I don't think you *need* to get that... Quote Link to post
