ferreter.al 22
i wouldnt leave them together,im pretty sure the hob would just eat the kits mate. Quote Link to post
ferret15 0
i have left Jill's together and they share the raising of the kits but have never left a hob with a Jill, i think as stated above that they will just get eaten or it will at least cause a lot of fighting if the Jill try's to protect them and she needs her energy to feed the kits. Kay 3,709
Its not something i would do personally , i think they need there own space to allow them to mother there own litters Quote Link to post
The one 8,482
As before Ive doubled up Jill's with Kit's no problem and a couple of times Ive been caught out and opened the box and a Jill's got Kit's in with the hob and he wasn't bothered about them but i think he rolls on them intentionally Quote Link to post
stubby 175
i wouldnt leave them together,im pretty sure the hob would just eat the kits mate. im sure i have saw posts on hear were people leave ther hobs with the jill ...anybody actuly had a hob eat a kit ? if you search through last years posts, you'll see I left kitts, jills, snipped hobs, catrated hob all in a court together, to see if "kitts" were eaten, none was, that may have been true years ago, when ferreters fed their ferts on bread and milk, you could understand ferrets, hobs or jills eating the young, but nowdays I doubt it, the castrated hob became more of an "aunty" and helped out big time with the kitts, the two snipped hobs stayed well away from everyone, knowing they wernt wanted, and all the spare jills slept together, but only you know your own ferts... stealthy1 3,964
I split my ferrets to give them space, like others have said, a few jills together are ok, but I take my hob out as a precaution, I have only cages, if I housed them in a good sized court I would leave them to get on with it, your call. martin 332
I left my Hob in with 3 Jills and 6 kits, and, the Jills shared the work, and, also kept the Hob away from the kits.Thjat said in the past I have had kits eaten by a Hob left in,so,I think it is a bit of a toss up.............'M' Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
In the past I've had kits squashed because the hob and jill kept squabbling, I think the hob was just over keen, so I split them now just in case, jills I just leave to get on with it. Quote Link to post
j davies 8
im sure i have saw posts on hear were people leave ther hobs with the jill ...anybody actuly had a hob eat a kit ? hi dont no if he eat the kits but my jill had her young a bit early than i thought and when i seen them she only had 2 that was aboiut 30 min old so dont no if he eat then but can only say funny for her to only have that many separated them and the 2 were ok Quote Link to post
John-B 4
sorry to but in, but for the first time ever my ferrets have come into season at different times, my black eyed white is due soon but my polecat hasn't come into season yet, will they be ok together? i'm assuming they will be but want to know if anyone else has experience of this as it is the first time it has happened to me, my ferrets usually come into season at the same time.
